JEFFREY HARRIS The Grand Master and the International Master Councilor were special guests when DeMolay met in Raleigh January 8 and 9. Board of Custodians Raleigh—Members of the Grand Lodge Board of Custodians met in special session here January 28 to make up for the regular meeting which was scheduled for January 14 and was cancelled due to icy roads. Member Kenneth Buckner, of Mars Hill, was still weathered in, but all other members were able to make the special meeting, including: Chairman William K. Price, Grand Lecturer Gilbert R. English, Secretary E. Floyd Dunn, W. Herman Hardee, Charles T. Potter and James H. Horne. It was the board’s first meeting since proficiency examinations for Certified Lecturers were held last September and Secretary Dunn reported on that activity. The Grand Lodge, he said, wound up the examinations with exactly the same number of Class A Certified Lecturers it had the previous September, 459. There were exactly enough new successful applicants to offset the losses occasioned by death and by failure to recertify. The number of Class B Certified Instructors increased from 10 to 13. (A Class A CL has memorized all the work of the lodge, a Class B Cl has memorized all the work except the First and Third Degree Lectures. Each must prove himself (Continued on Page Two) Raleigh—North Carolina DeMolays gathered here during the frigid weather of January 8 and 9 for their annual Council of Deliberation and to confer the degrees upon the “Grand Master’s Class” (30 initiates), honoring Grand Master Leslie H. Garner. International Master Councilor Jeffrey Lee Harris of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, was a special guest for this occasion and spoke to the assemblage of DeMolays, sweethearts, advisors and guests during the Saturday night banquet. About 450 were in attendance. The Grand Master’s banquet speech was in the form of a letter to his son, particularly appropriate for the occasion as it gave DeMolays a pretty good idea how a Masonic father feels concerning his son and Freemasonry. The degrees on Saturday afternoon, as well as the religious services and business meeting on Sunday morning, were held in the Masonic Temple on Caswell Street. The banquet Saturday night was held at Holiday Inn Downtown, headquarters for the weekend events. Dr. Eddie P. Stiles, DDGM-26 and Grand Master of the York Rite's Grand Council, represented the York Rite. Charles L. Morgan, Jr. is the current State Master Councilor and John A. Verdery is State Executive Officer. Morgan and the State Senior Councilor will attend the International DeMolay Congress in Michigan on April 14-16 and Verdery will attend the session of the International Supreme Council in Michigan on April 17-19. List Of N. C. Lodges Last year we published a list of the lodges and many members have since told us they found it helpful in a number of ways. We are repeating the list on page 3 of this issue and interested members may wish to clip it for future reference. In addition to the chartered lodges listed on page 3, we have a new lodge now working under dispensation; Federal Point Lodge U.D. at Carolina Beach, with stated communications on the second Thursday of each month.
