Helms at Orphanage By the time this paper is mailed 50 of the 1977 district meetings will have been held, only 15 will remain. These include the four that had to be rescheduled and the remaining schedule follows this article. Grand Master J. Earl Watson, despite continuing problems with the leg he injured in June, is presiding over each meeting. Grand Secretary Robert P. Dudley is reporting to the members on Grand Lodge matters. Public Relations Officer Harry L. Holland gives a report on the Orphanage, while Home reports are being given by different Masons in different localities. The host lodge serves dinner at 6:30 and opens at 7:30. Helms and Mrs. Helms—with their dog "Patches"—came to Oxford Orphanage Sep tember 1 to present 23 U. S. Flags for use in each of the classrooms of the newly-reopened school on the campus. On hand to greet the distin guished visitors were Grand Master J. Earl Watson, Orphanage Superintendent Robert L. Big Third Tentative plans for a Third Degree to be conferred by Grand Lodge Officers and other distinguished Masons were announced last month. Grand Lecturer Gilbert R. English and Custodians Secretary E. Floyd Dunn have since been working with Grand Master J. Earl Watson to finalize the following plans: The degree will commence at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 12, in the Masonic Temple at Winston-Salem. Salem Lodge 289 will be the host lodge; its officers and members will open a Master Mason's lodge and one of its Fellow Craft will be the candidate (he will have proved his proficiency at an earlier meeting). Past Grand Master Nathaniel C. Dean will confer the First Section, assisted by two other Past Grand Masters, six Grand Lodge officers, two Salem officers, and Dunn. Grand Master Watson will confer the Second Section. Assisting him will be at least three Past (Continued on Page Three)
