Official Publication of The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free & Accepted Masons of North Carolina VOL. CXIII - NO. 7 Oxford, North Carolina Jerry Gordon Tart, Grand Master LET’S GET THE JOB DONE In January, 1988 Most Worshipful Eddie P. Stiles, Grand Master, realizing the critical need for an addition to the Care Center at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home which would greatly enhance the programs there and the care we provide for the residents at the Home, launched a campaign to raise $2,000,000.00 for the construction of an addition to the Care Center. The good news is that since that time we have raised in excess of $550,000 toward this goal. The bad news is that we are still almost 75% short of our goal. You should also be aware that at least 20% of the funds received, an amount in excess of $100,000, has been contributed by residents at the Home and at the Independent Living Apartments. These residents are acutely aware of the urgent need to construct this addition to the Care Center at the earliest possible date. You can see they have demonstrated their support of this campaign in a very positive and dramatic fashion. At the present time we have a waiting list of 114 who have been approved for admission to the Home when space becomes available. There are ladies, in most instances widows, who have been on this waiting list for more than four years. Without the addition to the Care Center we remain limited to the present number of residents we can provide for at the Home—we can anticipate that the waiting list will continue to be a lengthy one. In my District Meetings, I have been discussing the need to complete the Care Center as part of our financial commitment to our fraternity, its members and their families. I believe all of us can understand and appreciate the necessity for getting this job done NOW. I also believe we are all willing to pitch in and help and not wait for someone else to do the job for us. We need to set a timetable by which we will accomplish this goal. Accordingly, I am requesting that each Lodge sponsor a fund raising activity for the specific purpose of raising the necessary funds to construct the addition to the Care Center at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home. Please begin to make your plans now and complete this activity not later than October 31, 1989, and forward the funds you have raised to Tommy L. Jones, Superintendent, The Masonic and Eastern Star Home, 700 South Holden Road, Greensboro, NC 27420 by November 15,1989. This will enable us to have all of the funds in hand before the year’s end and permit us to get this construction underway in the early part of 1990. If everyone pitches in, the job will be easy and the goal will be met. LET’S GET THIS JOB DONE. THE TOP SPOT The Squeeze Continues Each month recently we have had two or three "must run" articles. This month, the Postal Service has added to our woes, stipulating we must give even more of our precious space to the address label area. So, again there are items and pictures we could not get to in this issue. If your article or picture has not yet appeared, we do apologize, and we beg your patience. Better months will come, and we will eventually get everything in. July 1989 Oxford — In the top photo pou can recognize most of the senior Grand Lodge officers sitting on the reviewing stand. And when they got through coming, there were more than 11,000 people—Masons, their families and friends—on the ample campus of the 117- year-old Orphanage. What they came for was the 1989 St. John’s Day observance, on June 24.
