DON’TS FOR CHURCH PEOPLE Don’t show keener interest in your business six days in the week than you show in the Lord’s business on the first day of the week. Don’t think you can miss the worship con tinually and still 'be rated as an active member of the church. People have to act in order tc be active. Don’t stay away from the worship because you are unable to make a pledge to the church. When unable to make a contribution, make up for it in your presence and in the fine work you can do for the church. That is worth as much as money. Don’t let a week go by in which you do not ask somebody to attend church with you. Don’t go any place and don’t do anything upon which you cannot ask the blessing of God to rest. Don’t criticize someone for not having done better when the service they have rendered is tar better than anything you are doing. Don’t assume the attitude when in the wor ship of being so intelligent that no one can teach you anything. Don’t speak too hastily. Think twice before you speak. Don’t be a “stirrer-up” of trouble, be a peace maker. Don’t tell everything you hear for people talk a great deal and do not always mean it. “Boys flying kites can pull in the white-winged birds, but you can’t do that when you are flying words.” Don’t forget George Washington’s maxim: “Every act in company should show some signs of respect to those present.” Don’t wait to be appointed on a committee or to a position where you can serve, but instead find a place where you can work, then go to work with all your might. Don’t hurry from the church as soon as the benediction is pronounced. Don’t be slow in extending sympathy to those who need it. Learn to rejoice with those who rejoice and to weep with those who weep. Don’t let the dust accumulate on your Bible. Keep it in use. Don’t forget the church when you go on your vacation. The expenses go on just the same wnen you are absent as when you are present. Better pay before you go away for fear you will be broke when you return. OUR MOTHER’S IDEALS Few men live up to their mother’s expectations, and it is a tribute to mother love that it accepts the substitutes which we offer as if they were the sub stances of the dreams they had for us when we were children. But whatever we have done successfully we owe in large part to the impulse and incentive of this love that dreamed for us and follows us with unfailing desire for our good. We ought to remem ber that our lives are often the sole visible harvest of our mother’s endeavors. AMERICA FIRST Not merely in matters material, but in things of the spirit. Not merely in science, inventions, mo tors, and skyscrapers, but also in ideals, principles, character. Not merely in the calm assertion of rights, but in the glad assumption of duties. Not flaunting her strength as a giant, but bending in helpfulness over a sick and wounded world like a Good Samaritan. Not in splendid isolation, but in Christ like co-operation. Not in pride, arrogance, and disdain of other races and peoples, but in sym pathy, love, and understanding. Not in treading again the old, worn, bloody pathway, but in blazing a new trail, where please God, wars shall be no more. . Some day some nation must take that path—and that honor I covet for my beloved America. And so, in that spirit and with these hopes, I say with all my heart and soul, “America First.” Vote for one who will have America at heart first. WILLIS BAKERY W. Main St. Washington, N. C.
