This Students Exchange Serv ice has a two-fold purpose: (1) to promote international good will and understanding at the person to person level and (2) to provide the opportunity for study and international living abroad for up to a period of one full year. Two students of the present sophomore, junior, senior classes will be chosen to be sent as exchange students to France, RHS ROCKETS IN ACTION WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER 7, 196G Rockets Cop 3-A Title; Sanford Wins in Region n A > ft T ^^ the Northeastern 3-A Championship, the Rockets fell to a 27-10 defeat at the hands of the Sanford Yellow Jackets. This victory Regional Championship. The Rockets seemed to have had an off night. Sanford stayed in Rocket territory most of the first half. It only bowed to Sanford in the gave Sanford the Eastern 3-A Mexico, Denmark, or any place in the world. almost These two who will be repre senting Roxboro must rank in the upper third of their class scholastically and must abide by the rules of this program- The Rotary Club that receives these students will allow them a suitable monthly allowance for incidentals and will also provide a home in the country they go to for them to live in. The necessary arrangements for one year’s schooling will be pro vided free. The parents of the exchange students must furnish the trans portation fees to and from the foreign country and provide a $100 emergency fee to help pay the cost of necessities. Normally, only one student is sent each year, but since the schcol did not sponsor an ex change student this year and yet received one, Marilupe Davila Davila from Mexico, there must be two students sponsored for the one not sent this year and the one RHS will receive next year. Applications for the program have been available in the of fice for several weeks, but ac cording to Mr. Tom Brown, RHS principal, no student has turned in a completed application as of yet. “This program being sponsored by the Rotarians is a very good one. I would like to encourage each student who meets the qualifications required, to think seriously about being an ex change student,” commented Mr. Brown. According to Miss Suzanne Culberson, club sponsor, there has been a great deal of interest in the Drama Club this year. More than 80 students have at tended its first meetings. Plans and projects have already begun. The group saw the Carolina Playmakers’ pro duction of Jean Anouilh’s “Anti gone” on Sunday, November 13. Miss Culberson pointed out, “There are many misconceptions about the purpose of the Drama Club. It has, of course, as one of its objectives for its mem bers, the development of skill in acting. However, members are not obligated to be active participants in this phase, but may rather contribute to the club in such areas as scenery construction and design, costum ing and make up.” Future plans for the club are well under way. Along with the Roxboro Little Theater, the RHS band, and possibly the RHS Glee Club, members plan to present a musical in the spring. Also plans have been made to give two or three one-act plays in January or February. The Carrousel is the largest Christmas parade in North Car olina, according to Mr. Fred Duncan, band director, and in vitations are hard to obtain. The ninety-piece RHS group was asked to play a show tune, “Give My Regards to Broadway,” for the Carrousel. The day after the Carrousel, the band marched in Danville, Virginia’s Christmas parade at 11 A.M. After eating lunch in South Boston the same day, the group performed in the South Boston parade at 3 P.M. The band also played in Rox boro’s Christmas parade on Sat urday, November 26. In the spring, with the School Board’s permission, the band hopes to receive an invitation to travel to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D. C. Participation in the Vinton Dogwood Festival in Roanoke, Virginia, is also in the band’s spring schedule. Under the field leadership of Drum Major J. D.
