MEWS FROM SECOND
Second Grade Brooks is happy
to share some of the rich experi
ences enjoyed during the first re
port period.
In studying language arts, the
class met again old friends with
whom they lived last year. These
new stories about old friends were
enjoyed by all. To help make the
experiences more meaningful and
interesting, pictures showing
neighbors working, playing and
having fun together were collected
and displayed on the biiiletin
board. Each class member was
given a chance to teU about the
good times he or she had experi
enced with friends and neighbors.
Some of the class wrote sentences,
about their friends; some wrote
letters to them; others drew pict
ures showing some of the things
they do together.
In social studies, the class is en
joying the study of “Community
Helpers,” and is beginning to un
derstand that it takes the help of
many people to provide one’s,
everyday needs.

SECOND GRADE NEWS
Again, Second Grade “B” under
the supervision of Miss F. Bolton
ptarted the school year off with an
enrollment of 40 pupils.
We all were welcomed back to
our workshop and assured we
would have good times working
and playing together this school
year by our teacher.
After a brief reviewing and
planning period the majority of
the class were ready to begin our
year’s work centered around “Liv
ing Together In Our Community.”
We have completed four units of
work, which are: “Old Friends,”
“New Friends and Neighbors,”
“Animal Friends,” and “New
Storybook Friends.” Almost every
child was eager to read or listen
and find out more about his Old
or New Friends, Animal Friends
and New Storybook Friends. These
units have helped enable the pupils
to enjoy working and playing to
gether, and sharing their adven
tures more. The children shared
farm children’s adventures with
animals and pets, and gained new
ideas to think about and stimulatel
them to find out more about ani
mal friends.
We have learned several new
songs and have seen several films'
and filmstrips related to our unit
of work.
The chores of the class are tak
en care of by a different mem
ber each time in order to give each
child the experience. The Student!
Council is represented by two
members of our class. Diane Daye

Several of us are appearing on

Hi,
We are happy to greet you in,
the first issue of our paper.
In social studies we are study
ing about workers who help us
obtain water, food, shelter, cloth
ing and fun.
Our material is of wide interest
to us and it is at the level of our
experiences.
We are looking forword to
Thanksgiving. To us Thanksgiv
ing means more than just a feast;
day. We have so many things for
which we should be thankful. Most!
of all we are thankful for America,:
our land.
So long until our next issue.

FOURTH GRADE "H"
VISITS BRAZIL
The Fourth Grade H, after q
week of class orientation by our
teacher had a wonderful insight
of w'hat our school work for thq
year would include. It was un
animously decided by the class
that Social Studies would be our
major interest for study. The
majority of us were interested in
knowing how other boys and girls
live in different parts of our coun
try as well as children of othei;
countries. We are now visiting iq
Brazil, not only the children and
how they learn and play but also
'the products of the country. We
are learning a great deal from this
study and finding it very interest-
ling.

hibernate in the fall of the year.
We also enjoyed our Halloween
