We were very happy to welcome two new members at our first meeting who are: PhyUis Burton and Linda Harris. We have a total of 14 members and will gladly welcome more. We re-organized our group for the year of 1961-62. The officers are as follows; Leader: Cornelia Matthews Assist. Leader: Sharon Wjinstead Secretary: Cornelia Matthews Assist. Sec.: Gail Dickens Treasurer; Patricia Spencer The duties of each officer were explained by Miss Bolton, our Scout Leader. Some of our plans for the year are; to Usten to records, do creat ive dancing, dramatics, learn new scout songs, do seasonal crafts, go hiking, learn to sew, work puzzles, play games, sell Girl Scout Cookies, do some type of service project in the community and go camping in the summer of 1962. Repoorters: Bernice Walters Paula Dickens Sharon Winstead RESPONSIBILITY (Continued from page 2) ative when they encourage spon taneous and independent action, when they recognize and praise a job well done, and when they withhold unnecessary criticism of minor details. Children who learn to be trust worthy and resourceful in thej classroom will know how to ba useful members of the home and community. They will be able to anticipate things that need to be done, to volunteer for jobs that, they can do well and having ac cepted an assignment, to see it through to completion. A sense of responsibility cannot be taught like a lesson in spelling or mathe matics. But it can gradually be developed by teachers and parents who have faith in children, who do not expect too much or too little of them, and who provide opportunities lor them to im prove their dependability.
