Once newly re-elect ed Mayor Jerry M. Mc Crary opened the meet ing, he called Mayor Pro Tern Lula H. Council to the podium. Council, who was the first female mayor of the town, opted not to seek re-election. Tues day’s meeting conclud ed her 28-year career of service to the town. “It was always about what was most impor tant for the citizens of the town,” Council told those in attendance. “1 did everything 1 could to help move Parmele forward.” “It has been a plea sure to serve and 1 have not regretted one min ute,” explained Council. “Thank you for allowing me to serve.” Judge Regina Parker was on hand to offer the oath to new com missioners Mary Ann Morning and Kenneth See PARMELE, A3 Lula H. Williamston leaders return Pro-Tempore election voided after procedural error SARAH HODGES STALLS Enterprise & Weekly Herald WILLIAMSTON - The all incumbent William ston Board of Commis sioners were sworn in Monday night at the regularly scheduled monthly meeting along with returning mayor, Joyce Whichard-Brown. Following the swear ing-in by Chief District Court Judge Regina Parker, the board pro ceeded to elect the Mayor Pro Tempore. Commissioner Ronell Rodgers Local filing is slow National offices have abundance THADD WHITE Enterprise & Weekly Herald WILLIAMSTON - Early fil ing is slow in Martin County, but not across the state. As of noon Thursday, only two candidates had filed for local office. Incumbent Dempsey Bond, a Democrat, has filed for one of three seats on the Martin County Board of Com missioners. Joining him locally is Democrat Kimberly J. Griffin, who is seeking a second full term as Martin County Register of Deeds. While the local races are still taking shape, the Democratic bal lot for President of the United States has a whopping 15 names on it thus far, and the Lib ertarians have 16 from which to choose. The Democratic bal lot includes former Vice President Joe Biden, former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, U.S. Senators Michael Ben- net (Colorado), Cory Booker (New Jersey), Bernie Sanders (Ver mont), Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota) and Eliza beth Warren (Massa chusetts) as well as U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii). Other Democratic candidates include for mer Mayors Michael Bloomberg (New York) and Julian Castro (San Antonio) as well as South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigeig and former Congressman John Del aney. Rbunding out the field are Tom Steyer, Mari anne Williamson and Andrew Yang.
