“We had hoped to retain
gynecological services; how
ever, the practice will close ef
fective Jan. 3,” she said.
“Within 35 miles, patients
have access to obstetrics
and gynecological services
in Washington, Tarboro and
Greenville,” Wilkerson added.
Assistance is reportedly
available to help Roanoke
Women’s Healthcare patients
transition their care and trans
fer their medical records.

ery services effective Oct. 21,

FFA State Championship
in Livestock Judging re
cently.
According to the Bear
Grass Charter School
FFA Instructor Sarah
Lawrence, they com
peted against 73 teams
from across the state to
earn the title.
“The Livestock Evalu

ment Event is the largest
FFA competition held
each year with more
than 800 students in
attendance at the Hunt
Horse Complex in Ra
leigh,” said Lawrence.

commissioners voted to
consider taking on up to
half the responsibility
for a $200,000 spending
gap in an ongoing proj
ect at the Martin County
Regional Business Park.
County officials con
tinue to seek additional
sources for funding to
complete this project,
according to conversa
tions during the meet
ing.
Gov. Roy Cooper in
troduced the Rural
ReadySites grant pro
gram on Feb. 7, 2018.
The program reported
ly funded public infra
structure projects that
benefit economic devel
opment.
Water, sewer and
industrial access im
provements were given
higher priority, accord
ing to information from
the Martin County Man
ager’s office. Eligibil
ity is limited to govern
ment entities in Tier 1
or 2 counties.
On March 14,2018, the
Martin County Board
of Commissioners ap
proved the submission
of a Rural ReadySites
pre-application to the
North Carolina Depart
ment of Commerce in the
amount of $ 1,126,600 for
expansion of the grav
ity sewer system and
the rehabilitation of the
existing elevated stor
age tank at the Martin
County Regional Busi
ness Park. The request
was for $1,013,940 in
