The topic up for discussion was the possible construction of another building in the in dustrial park. Semple explained Vann Rog- erson of NC East Alliance, a private, not-for-profit eco nomic development agency serving more than one million residents within several small metropolitan and micropo- litan areas from the fringe of the Research Triangle to the Atlantic Coast, has shared information showing a trend ing need for buildings of this type. “We’ve been seeing a lot of increased demand for smaller, ready to go buildings in the 10,000 - , 30,000 and 50,000 - square - feet range,” Semple said. Monica Bullock and her fam ily were selected to star in a television commercial for the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. “In July a couple of news sta tions had posted on their web site a casting call for the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores in Atlantic Beach. 1 sub mitted our family pictures. We were one of the lucky families selected for the commercial,” said Bullock. The casting call began July 31 and ended Aug. 5. The commercials were ex pected to feature young fami lies with toddler boys or girls, teenage boys and girls and adults who look to be in their 20s to 70s to portray the family tradition. Filming was scheduled on weekends throughout August and September at the aquarium and other local places, weather permitting. Each commercial took approximately one day to shoot. “We are interested in featur ing local talent to showcase family traditions. While these are unpaid positions, this is an exciting opportunity to see the aquarium after hours and behind the scenes, as well as participate in special activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding,” said the aquarium’s communications manager Dan ielle Bolton. Visitation restrictions include anyone who exhibits cold or flu-like symptoms, fever, diar rhea, vomiting or head aches. The restrictions do not apply to those in need of emergency care. Children under age 12 will not be permitted in the hospital for visita tion purposes. This is to minimize the spread of respiratory infections to hospital patients, employees, community and children under 12 years of age, according to hospital officials. “Patients in the hospi tal have weakened im mune systems, and it’s our job to protect them from unnecessary ex posure to germs,” said John Jacobson, Interim Chief Executive Officer. “We recognize the im portance of family sup port when a loved one is hospitalized, and we See RESTRICTIONS, 3 MCC received two major equipment grants LESLIE BEACHBOARD Enterprise S Weekly Herald WILLIAMSTON - Over the past two months, Martin Commu nity College was notified of two major equipment grants. The United States Depart ment of Agriculture (USDA) and the Cannon Foundation informed the college it would be receiving funds for signifi cant projects. On Nov. 20, the USDA an nounced that MCC had been selected to receive a $392,850 Distance Learning and Tele medicine (DLT) Grant. The grant will enable the college to create an interac tive distance learning net work linking eight rural high schools in Martin and Bertie counties. STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and college transfer courses will be offered to students through this new delivery system. The proposed improve ments to the college’s infor mation highway classroom will also allow local health care professionals to receive training. Currently the Information Highway room on Martin Community College is outdat ed.
