Keeping his identity from the blind children until after all the dignitaries had spoken words of welcome, he was called on to speak, introduced only as a “very special sailor living in Norfolk.” His voice was instantly recognized by the blind children, and a happy reunion followed. On Sept. 1st., he became Assist ant Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury, working close ly with his former pastor Rev. W. J. Stephenson, who pastored him when he resided in Wilmington. While Mr. Finch will assist in all phases of church work, he will give much of his tme to work with the younger people of their 1300 membership church. The Paschal Golf Club 5th An nual GoU Tournament qualifying rounds began Wednesday, and match play rounds start Septem ber 24th. Entrance fees have been upped this year, but contestants please bear in mind that aU mon- i ey is used to buy trophies. I would like to put in a word for the tournament and rules com mittees. These are thankless jobs and always open to criticism. It is not possible to suit everyone in a club tournament, but the com mittee hope the members will un derstand what it is their inten tion to accomplish. A large field makes for a lot of interest and it is hoped that all club members will participate. Major John Morris Completes Command And Staff Course Army Maj. John P. Morris, son of Mrs. Luna B. MEXICO^ ’ UL ^ J Ct/t- . ^ ' mClfKitHiiAH M illions of years ago nature fashioned a proving ground for trucks that man can never duplicate. Today it is known as the Baja (bah' hah) California Peninsula, Mexico. These pictures give you only a bare idea of the place. The road is fine for 140 miles below the U.S. border. Then the beating begins. Rocks and hard-baked ruts bang, jab and jerk the trucks from stem to stern. Loose sand makes them struggle and strain. Dust chokes them. Heat roasts them. Rivers drench them. • ■ i': -X : The Baja Run took this Chev rolet truck caravan 17 days to go the 1,066 miles. All the trucks performed magnifi cently. Not one was forced to drop out because of mechanical difficulty. Trucks that can take this kind of beating can take on your tough est truck jobs. Come in now and see tough quality-built ’63 Chev rolet trucks with all their new im provements. Sometimes the caravan crept along for hours in low gear.
