I^age 2, The Wake WeeMy, Wake Poi-est, N. C., Pec. 10, 1965 EDITORIAL COMMENT Support Your Schools-Vote We not only need schools — we must have the m, and one way or another they will have to be paid for by the citizens of this community. Satur day we will be asked to approve ' an $8.4 million bond issue for the construction of new schoo Is in Wake County and Raleigh schools. School officials and those close to the schools are naturally concerned about the passage of the bonds, but all of us as parents and business peo pie must realize that good schools are the best sign of progress a community can possess. Don’t fail your responsibility as a citizen, do care what happens to the public schools. Go to the polling place Saturday and show that you Shop At Home Shopping days until Christmas are getting les s and less, but most of us still have plenty of shop ping to do. Wake Forest merchants would like to have the opportunity to show you that it pays to shop at home. Everytime the “shop at home” subject comes up, some one comes up with a “What do I care if . . . gets any business?” Well all of us who live here profit when our local businesses do well. They make more money so they pay more taxes; they support school activvities; they give to the United Fund and other worthwhile agencies. Yo ur local businessman helps the community grow and prosper, but he can do it only with the supp ort of you and all of us who want to “Make Wake Forest an even better place to live and work.” Shop at home where your money gets returns. It’s good business! Thanks For The Tea Thanks for the tea! Wake Forest Home Demonstration Club members (and their husbands) are to be congratulated for the effort they put every year in to the Christmas Tea. It is a very worthwhile pro ject and one of the few we can think of to which the whole community is invited. They do all the work for all of us to enjoy, but if a ppreciation is any reward to them, we know they can feel very rewarded this week. Lions Selling Christmas Trees Christmas trees are now on sale by the Wake Forest Rions Club. The shipment of fresh, green trees arrived this week and may be purchased from the parking lot at Hollowell’s Food Store. The trees, available in sizes to suit every home, will go on sale tonight. Local Lions will be on hand to aid j^ou in the selection and purchase of trees each week day from 5 p. m. to 7 p. m., Fri days from 3 p, m. to 9 p. m., and Saturdays from 9 a. m. to 8 p. m. This schedule will be maintained until the supply of trees is er- hausted. Proceeds from the sale of the trees will go to the club’s many charitable outlets, especially to provide Christmas baskets for blind and partially-sighted resi dents in the Wake Forest area. “We hope that this centrally lo cated, local source for excellent quality Christmas trees will pro vide a service for the commu nity,” commented John Lyon, president of the Wake Forest Lions Club. Youngsville; I'^ews WAKE FINISHING LISTS HOLIDAY SCHEDULE Christmas operating schedules for the Wake Finishing plant of Burlington Industries were an nounced today by J. L. McIntyre, Plant Manager, who also re- vealed plans for the annual Chil dren’s Christmas Party. Mr. McIntyre said Christmas holidays at the plant would be ob served from the end of the second shift on December 23, until the be ginning of the third shift on De cember 27. Employees eligible by length of service for vacation pay will re ceive checks during the week of December 12, it was announced. The annual Christmas party for employees’ children will be held at 2:00 P. M., Sunday, December 12 in the Wake Finishing plant. Santa Claus will be on hand and gift bags containing toys, candy, fruits, and a variety of other gifts will be distributed to all employ ees’ children under 10 years of age. The 10 to 12 year-old young sters receive individual gifts. Approximatelp 1200 persons, in cluding children and parents, are expected to attend. WF Cubs to Meet Wake Forest Cub Souts will have their Christmas Packs meet ing Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 at the Community House. URGE SUPPORT OF SCHOOL BOND VOTE SATURDAY During the week, several no tices have been forwarded to par ents in the Rolesville School dis trict by Principal E. R. Tharring- ton, urging everyone eligible to get out and vote in the School Bond issue tomorrow, December 11th. According to school officials, it is imperative that voters vote YES on Saturday for the Bond Issue, if Wake County is to build quality buildings and maintain the qual ity of instruction demanded by its citizens. If these necessary funds were raised by a tax levy, it would require an increase in the tax rate of approximately 54 cents per $100 valuation for each of the next four years. If bonds are voted, costs will be spread over a period of 20 yeads from date of sale. Santa,s Shopping List from Holding’s ^ There’s a gift for everyone on your list!
