Holden Sr. for the holidays are Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Church and baby of Charlotte, Mrs. Gor don Fyfe of Fullerton, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Rochester and family of Winston-Salem. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. John Hol den and sons will have them along with Mr. and Mrs. C. Y. Holden, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Holden, Mrs. Ola Jackson and Miss Mar garet Ann Jackson for dinner. Billy Mangum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mangum, is home for Christmas from Wake Forest Col lege. Garland Hendricks Jr. is home from Wake Forest College for the Christmas holidays. Mrs. James Tull visited with two of her sisters and their fami lies in Arkansas last week while Dr. Tull attended a meeting in Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Durward Matheny of Alexandria, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. Charles East and son of Silver Springs, Md. will spend Christmas with their families here. Luke 2:7. ; Sunday, Dec. 19th men’s prayer band met at 7 o’clock with 23 present. Mr. Glenn Kearney was speaker. Sunday School began at 10 o’clock with 207 present. There were many visitors fbr the 11 o’clock service. Rev. Carey brought a Christmas message, “What is Christmas?” Luke 2:11. Sunday night the Christmas pag eant, “What Can I Give Him?” was presented. After the pageant we had a Baptismal service for 12 candidates: Mr. and Mrs. Per ry Grissom, Mr. and Mrs. Benny Alford, Susan Pierce, Kent Creech, Lois Blackley, Linda King, Tommy Batts, Mr. Albert Perry and Mr. John Ludwick. Saturday night, Dec. 18th the church held its adult Christmas party at Camp Durant with 100 present. A delicious turkey din ner prepared by Mr. George DU- lenger, Mrs. Annie Willie Young and Jack Green was served. After supper Mr. Boyce Lawerence, made a short talk and presented gifts to Mr. Dillenger, Mrs. Young and Jack Green. He then recog nized Mrs. Sue Wadford as teach er of the year and her Dept. Su- nerintendent, Mrs. Venica Hill. Our pastor. Rev. H. W. Carey was presented a love gift from the members of the church. The gift was $1,500.00 for a trip to the Holy Land which he will be mak ing with Rev. Art Wilson next spring. Mr. Hugh Upchurch was in charge of the games. Mrs. Albert Perry’s son, Phillip Woods who was in Duke Hospital is home again and doing very well. Mr. G. W. Wester is sick again. We missed him at church Sunday. Mr. Edward Dean, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ragan, got a cut on his head last week that took eight stitches. He’s doing fine now. Mr. Ralph Council is home from VA Hospital. We are praying he will soon be strong enough to come hack to church. Our sympathy goes out to Mr. Jimmy Grem, whose mother was murdered in Rock Hill, S. C. last week. Last Wednesday night, Dec. 15th after prayer meeting our family gathered at our home to celebrate our son, J. R.’s birthday. Special guests were: Rev. and Mrs. H. W. Carey and children, Harold Jr. and Pam, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Hill and sons, Kay and Clay, Mrs. James Wilkes. Chicken salad sandwiches, cake, mints, dry sal ad, punch and coffee were served.
