Participate In Clubs
Now that school has started again, our many, various clubs
and committees are functioning again, also. Extra-curricular
activities are an important and meaningful part of school life.
^Freshmen and Sophomores should try to get involved in some
t^pe of club or activity for their school. However, no one should
join a club just for prestige, because his friends are doing it, or
because the club goes on ''groovy” trips. No one should join a
club unless he is willing to uphold the vows of the club, attend
its meetings, co-operate and work for the club, and assume any
responsibility that is thrust upon him. A good club member
should pay his dues on time and be enthusiastic and support
all projects. He should also tell others about this club and get
other people interested.
Being a good club member is not always an easy job. It
requires many hours of work. No one can do his best if he is
involved in too many clubs, either.
Get involved in extra - curricular activities, but don't take on
more activities than you can handle well.
Are You A Good Spectator?
The Bearcats have had a fine season so far this year in foot
ball. We are very proud of the team and all their victories.
Sportsmanship is a very important part of football, or any
other sport. Good sportsmanship does not only concern the
losing team, but the winning team, also. As football players
must follow the rules, there are several guidelines all spectators
should follow.
Do not cheer when a player is hurt on the field. Give him
a respectful silence.
Do not throw confetti when you are asked not to. Instead
of adding to school spirit, confetti really detracts.
Don't embarass your team or other fans by unsportsmanlike
conduct. Accept the decisions of qualified referees, even if the
decision is not in favor of your team.
Always give your support to the cheerleaders. Cheer with
them, not against them. It is fine to cheer on your own, but
do not try to compete with the cheerleaders.
If everyone will follow these few simple rules for "spectator-
ship'', HHS can have a much better, unified school spirit.
Letters To The Editor
Dear Editor,
Recenily, HHS has added another
club of activity to its already established
list of fine organizations. The new addi
tion is the HHS Debate Club. Last week
the club had its first meeting and was
greatly encouraged by the students who
were interested. There is promise that
the membership will keep increasing
as the year progresses.
The club is designed for the purpose
of giving the students of HHS an equal
opportunity to express themselves on
the current issues of today in both
national and international affairs.
The sponsor for the '69 - 70 debate
year is Mr. Orr who is truly an indes-
pensible help to everyone.
There is much to be gained from the
Debate Club. As well as being on of
the better informed students of HHS, the
debater also gains useful experience in
public speaking, quick thinking, valuable
research, responsibility to himself and
others, and team work.;
Sincerely,
Karen Douglas
Dear Editor,
This year we are very fortunate at
HHS to have a foreign exchange student.
As many of you know, she is Patrizia
Vivarelli from Italy. She will be here
for only one year, so she is anxious
to meet people. I would like to urge
everyone to get to know her while she
is here.
Don't be afraid to introduce yourself;
Pat is very friendly and would love to
meet you. If you are not able to-see her
very often at school, invite her to your
home.
Sincerely,
Kay Williams
Dear Dolly,
I need your help. I am new here
this year at HHS, and I have a problem.
Ever time I see a girl in the hall I un
controllably rush and hug her. This
happens constantly - - before school,
between classes and after lunch. I find
the problem particularly bad in those
empty, deserted halls after driver's
training. Thisproblem is particularly bad
for me since I am a junior boy and
should know how to control my emotions
by now. Please suggest a way I can
restrain these urges.
Sincerely,
n H.E.
Dear H. E. ,
There's no need to restrain your
self. Since the great lack of snow caused
by the loss of last year's class; all sopho
more, junior, and senior girls welcome
the attention.
Dear Dolly,
I am a freshman with several serious
problems. First-- I asked a very reliable
source, a senior, where is thefourth floor?
Also, I brought a $5.00 ticket from a
junior, entitling me to five swins in the
high school pool. I asked Miss Hensley
where it was, and she just said that she
wished she knew.
Another thing - - would you please
tell me about the freshman lounge?
Some senior said they're building one
for us right now. Thanks.
A Freshman.
Dear Freshman,
You really are having a hard time,
but don't worry. Just keep asking a-
round, and things are bound to improve.
All seniors are glad to keep the freshmen
"informed."
