Page 2-BESSEMER CITY RECORD-Wednesday, September 19, 1979 BC Women s Club Appoints Committees When members of the Woman’s Club resumed their regular monthly meetings after not meeting during the summer months, a number of committees were ap pointed for actions to be made during the club year. Mrs. Clyde Servls, president, presided at the Wednesday afternoon meeting. Mrs. Lacy Thompson gave the opening devotions with her talk centered around “Being Aware of Our Resources and Sharing Ourselves With Others.” Reports were made by Mrs. W.A. Lindeke, secretary; and Miss Mary Ormand, treasurer. Mrs. Irene O. Simmons, chairman of the Education Committee, reported that Renee King was the reclp- pient of the club’s annual scholarship given to a Bessemer City High School graduate to attend Gaston College. Renee, who is a 1979 BCHS graduate, has enrolled in the freshman class for the fall term at Gaston College. At the recommendation of Mrs. M.B. Pearson, custodian, rental fee per day for the use of the club’s facilities was raised from ten dollars to fifteen dollars per day. Mrs. Sarvis appointed a committee to have charge of purchasing a picture or mural to hang over the club’s mantel of its rock fireplace. Appointed to the committee are Miss Eva Carpenter, Miss Louise Eury, Mrs. Floyd Noblett and Mrs. Irene Simmons. Mrs. Joe Whitehurst and Mrs. Earl Barnes were appointed to investigate the purchase of new chairs for the club lounge. would be announced at the October meeting. The Bazaar is to take place in November. Mrs. Lindeke gave the program for the meeting. She told about her recent visit to England and Wales. She displayed literature concerning different toured. Hostesses Mrs. Melvin Whiteside was appointed to get estimates on different types of heating systems for the club building. Mrs. Sarvis announced that committees for the club’s annual Fall Bazaar American War Mothers Install New Officers Thurs Mrs. Katie Mae Oates who was re-elected recording secretary of the Bessemer City Chapter of American War Mothers, installed new officers for the chapter year. The installation took place Thursday afternoon in the education building of First Wesleyan Church. As she installed each officer, Mrs. Oates presented her with a red carnation, a gift from Mrs. Elva Whiteside of Whiteside Florist. Officers are: Mrs. Doris Franklin, president; Mrs. Margie Fowler, vice president; Mrs. Annie Nichols, historian; Mrs. Oates, recording secretary; Mrs. Margaret Richardson, treasurer; Mrs. Geneva Franklin, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Lillian Poe, custodian of records; and Mrs. M.T. Saunders, chaplain. Drawing from the bir thday box were Mrs. B.M. Causby, Mrs. Doris Franklin, and Mrs. Edith Farmer. The corresponding secretary read a letter of appreciation from members of the family of the late Wilma Withers Miss Keeter, Mr. Johnson Armstrong which thanked the War Mothers for their memorial gift to the organ fund of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Saunders, who gave the opening and closing prayers, thanked the members for their cards sent to her while she was hospitalized. Mrs. Franklin an nounced hat Mrs. Saunders and Mrs. K.C. Richardson would be hostesses for the October meeting. Mrs. Charles Absher led members In the Chapter rituals. Hostesses for the meeting served chicken salad and cookies with coffee and iced drinks. Hostesses were Mrs. Margaret Richardson and Mrs. Doris Franklin. Are Wed In Maryland Curtis Williams The marriage of Miss Debra Eva Keeter to Mr. Donald T. Johnson took place in Ellicott City, Maryland, on September 4, 1979. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dock J. Keeter of Columbia, Md., and Is also the grand daughter of Mrs. Mary Froneberger Dobbins of Bessemer City and Harry P. Keeter of Greensboro, N.C. The bride’s father is a native of Bessemer City and her mother, a native of Germany. She finished high school at the School for American Dependents In Stuttgart, Germany and attended City College In Chicago and Is currently employed by Motorola in Phoenix, Ariz. The son of Mrs. Donald T. Johnson Sr. of Scott sdale, Ariz., and the late Mr. Johnson, the bridegroom was educated at Scottsdale High School and Mesa Community College In Arizona. He is employed by Beta Sigma Corporation In Phoenix. For her wedding, the bride wore a violet pol-de- soie dress accented with miniature red flowers and carried a bouquet of red carnations Interspersed with baby’s breath. Following the ceremony, parents of the bride en tertained at a reception that took place at their home in Columbia. Following a wedding trip, the couple will make their home In Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Dobbins attended the wedding ceremony and reception. Is Entertained Curtis Williams was honored Sunday evening at a pool party and cook-out that was given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis J. Williams Sr. The party honoring Curt’s sixteenth birthday anniversary took place at the Williams’ residence at 609 East Iowa Avenue where thirty guests were present.
