Forsyth Tech
Receives Accreditation
Something of interest to all F.T.I. stu
dents: Forsyth Technical Institute is now
accreditated! An explanation of the value
of accreditation was given by Mr. Flee-
man, Jr., Director, Adult Education.
The receiving of accreditation by For
syth Tech means that the institute has
met the very high standards of the
Southern Association and has been recog
nized as offering a quality educational
program. It was the only technical insti
tute in North Carolina to be so honored.
The receiving of accreditation does not,
however, change the intent of the total
program. It remains a technical insti
tute offering the same type programs
as before. Accreditation should open
more job opportunities to the students
since many companies reserve certain
job classifications for graduates of ac
creditated schools. Also accreditation
will prove of value in seeking additional
scholarship aid for F.T.I. students.
Council Sponsors Valentine Dance
Have your ears ever rung to the music
of The Rockolas? Have you danced on the
“roof” of the Hotel Robert E. Lee?
If your answer is no to either question
then the unique opportunity awaits you!
The Student Council of Forsyth Techni
cal Institute is sponsoring a Valentine
Dance on Saturday, February 15, from 8
p.m. until 1 a.m. It will be held at the
Robert E. Lee Hotel in downtown Win
ston-Salem.
Representatives and officers of the stu
dent council have tickets which can be
purchased now. The prices are $2.00
per couple or $1.50 each for stags.
These tickets will be on sale through
Friday, February 14. Door tickets will be
available at $2.50 per couple or $1.50 stag.
Dress for the dance is somewhat semi-
formal with party dresses for girls and
suits and ties for boys.
Each curriculum nominated one girl
as a representative in the Sweetheart
Queen Contest. The committee chair
man, Nancy Cooper, asked each girl
one question. These questions related
directly to Forsyth Tech or to present
world affairs. The girls were judged on
five characteristics and given from one
to five points for each quality. Points
were added and the five girls who re
ceived the most votes were named as
finalists.
Doris Adams, 19, is representing the
Air Conditioning section.
Rita Harvey, 18, is a representative
from the Practical Nursing Curriculum,
section A.
Ginger Miller, 19, also represents the
Nursing Curriculum from section C.

the first-year Electronics students.
