Long Weekends
Follow New
Holiday Plan
This is the year of the
three-day weekends. For us
at Pisgah Forest, as at many
Olin locations elsewhere,
eight of the nine holiday
schedules will involve Fri
days or Mondays.
It is a matter of both
calendar coincidence and
the new Federal Monday
Holiday Law. With New
Year's Day on Friday, Christ
mas on Saturday, and July 4
on Sunday, the holiday po
licy gives us three long
weekends in addition to the
two long weekends offered
by Good Friday and Labor
Day holidays.
There is a further coinci
dence that increases the
number of long weekends
this year to a total of nine.
The policy that allows ob
servance of Saturday holi
days on Fridays and Sunday
holidays on Mondays, puts
December 31 into holiday
position because of New
Year's Day 1972 occurring
on Saturday. This predomi

days will occur only rarely,
but our following the Feder
al Monday Holiday Law will
assure us of five long week-
ends per year: Third Mon
day in February, Good Fri
day, last Monday in May,
Labor Day, and second Mon
day in October.
The new law became ef
fective January 1. Although
technically it covers only
employees of the Federal
