Sets New Record
FILM PLANT EXCEEDS 5,000,000 INJURY-FREE WORKER HOURS
The cellophane plant of the Ecusta
Paper and Film Group at Pisgah For
est set a new record for itself May 4
with completion of 5,000,000 injury-
free worker hours.

sioner John Brooks spoke June 1 at a
luncheon honoring employees of the
film operation for what he termed a
monumental safety achievement. He
quoted from an editorial in The Ashe
ville Times May 7 following an
nouncement of the milestone:
“Olin obviously has a safety pro
gram that works. If the efforts of
most other companies were so suc
cessful, the country probably never
would have heard of the federal Oc
cupational Safety and Health Admin
istration.”
The five million milestone repre
sented 1,278 days without disabling
injury, dating from November 3,
1973. Shortly after passing the mark
Plant Manager Donald Parker issued
a statement commending the ac
complishment:
“I wish to thank all personnel of
the Pisgah Forest film plant, and to
MUSIC CENTER PLANS FIRST OLIN NIGHT
THEN RETURNS FOR OPEN AIR CONCERT
On the strength of the popular open air concert last summer at Camp
Straus, the Brevard Music Center has gone all out in its demonstration
of the neighborly bond it shares with the Olin plants and the community.
Not only did the music center agree to provide entertainment for Olin’s
36th annual picnic at Camp Straus July 9, they scheduled OLIN NIGHT for
July 26 in the center’s Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium and made plans for the
second open air concert at Camp Straus August 11.
The Transylvania Concert Band will begin the August 11 program at
7:30 p.m., following a bring-your-own picnic at Camp Straus. This will be open
to all the community.

Winner of the Best In Olin plant
safety contest last year, the Pisgah
Forest film plant represented the
Ecusta Paper and Film Group in the
1977 contention for the Olin plant
having the best accident prevention
program. This is the plant’s third
year of representing the Group in the
Best in Olin contest.
The plant also was awarded the
National Safety Council’s Award of
Honor for its accident free record
November 3, 1973 through Decem
ber 31, 1976, at which time the in
jury-free hours totaled 4,558,028.
Commissioner John Brooks
