Zion Church, of this city, in the person of Rev. J. H. Manley, D. D. Mr. Manley hails from Florida. He comes highly endorsed by both white and colored. He is said to be one of the sweetest singers of his race. He has drawn large audiences of both white and colored, North and South. As a preacher he is prac tical and pointed, as a financier he has but few equals in his Church. Large gatherings greet him whenever it is known that he is going to preach and sing; some of the best white^people of Pensacola attended his services every Sab bath. There have already ar rangements been made for the ac commodation of white people who may desire to attend his services at Old Ship. The membership of the above named Church are delighted over their new pastor. And it is pre dicted already that the Church will not be sufficient to accommo date the large audience. —Mont gomery Weekly Press. THE RIGHT MAN. BY WM. C. PIERSON. Our most worthy Bishop Small made no mistake in sending to the South Mississippi Conference on the Meridian district as Presiding Elder a Joshua in the person of Rev. J. S. Jackson. I was ap pointed as pastor to Cooksville. Rev. Jackson had the pleasure of being in the first love-feast and general class that had been held for the last four years here. At the quarterly conference March 5th he allowed no officer to turn either to the right or left, but stay in the middle of the law. He knows how to stir lazy fellows until they say “I will do better.” Sunday he preached the funeral of one of the oldest Zionites in this section of the country who had been a class-leader in the Cooks ville church for more than 30 years. He was 70 years old. Peace be to his ashes. His name was Curry Binion, the father of R. C. Binion, preacher’s steward. The theme of Rev. Jackson’s dis course was, “The Christian’s chal lenge to the enemy.” His text was 1 Cor. 15:55. On his district three or four persons generally oin the church at each service he jholds. Cooksville, Miss. Borom circuit is marching stead ily to success. Matilda Key, pres ident of the stewardesses, is mak ing it pleasant for the pastor, who preaches soul-stirring sermons.— Borom, Ala. —o— Rev. A. J. Gorham will open his camp-meeting at Rock Hill church July, 27th and close August 7th. Everybody invited. Big speakers will be present. A OiwdiMM'i Tr««bl*. From the Detroit (ifloh.') Journal. The promptness with which the Nationap Guard of the different states responded to President McKinley’s call for troops at the beginning of the war with Spain made the whole country proud of-its oitizen soldiers. In Detroit there are few guardsmen more popular and efficient than Max R. Davies first sergeant of Co. R He has been a resi dent of Detroit for the ast six years, and kh, ome is at 416 Thirc Avenue. For four yearj. he was connected with the well known whole sale drug house of Far-' rand, Williams k Clark„ in the capacity of book-J keeper. “I have charged up many thousand order!i for Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People,” said Mr. Davies, “bull ^ _ never knew their worth Tfa First Sergeant, until I used them forltlie cure of chronic dyspepsia. For two years I suffered and doctored for that aggravating trouble but could only be helped temporarily. “I think dyspepsia is one of the most stubborn of ailments, and there is scarcely a clerk or office man be t what is more or less a victim. Some days I could eat any thing, while at other tim es I would be starv ing. Those distressed pains would force me to quit work. “I tried the hot-wator treatment thor oughly, but it did not affect my case. I have tried many advertised remedies but they would help only fc r a time. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People, bit I did not think much of them. “I finally was induced to try the pills and commenced using them. After taking a few doses I found much relief. I do not temember how.many boxes of the pills I used, but I used them u util the old trouble Itopped. I know they irill cure dyspepsia frf the worst form and I am pleased to re tom-mend them.” .
