A Great Lesson
There are a great many people who are learn
ing these days the very wonderful lesson that,
somewhere at the secret heart of sacrifice and
self-giving, there are springs of happiness and
delight that are not to be found anywhere else in
all God's great universe. Not a few ivho have
heretofore thought of satisfaction chiefly in terms
of possession, or attainment, or use, have sud
denly stumbled across the truth that there is a
better and more real way of life. The doing with
out things for oneself in order to have to give to
others has been found to be not an irksome task
but a real joy and satisfaction. In toil and labor
for others, or for a great cause, many have found
a delight and a pleasure of quite a new and vit
al sort when compared with anything that mere
amusement ever yielded. In fact thousands who
have really never seen it before have come to un
derstand in a most personal and real way that
what the great Master said about saving one's
life by losing it is not a bristling paradox but a
great and fundamental and beneficent law of
life. The Christian Guardian.
