Reformed Synod of Potomac Wants That 1 mount For t'orelg Kisslons. The missionary board of the Poto mac Synod of the Reformed church, presented to the Synod which met at Hickory this week, a request for $1, 000,000 to be devoted to foreign mis sions next year. Monday waa given up to missionary problems, the com mittee on that subject presenting Its report that day. The most. Important items of the report aside from the call for missionary funds, were rec ommendations that moneys contribu ted for home and foreign missions be transmitted direct to the treasury of the boards; that all congregations be urged to pay their apportionments In full; bl-eynodic board of home and foreign missions was requested to consider consolidation with the board of the general synod; a resolution that a general fund of $500,000 for church-building be raised by 191$, and that a committee of one from each classls be appointed to raise this fund. The report of the committee on publications was then read; it showed increased business in the book store and : messenger depart ments, and recommended the consol ldatlon of the publication and Sun day school boards. He died Mon day. ' Walsh' was for yean a notable figure in American high finance, but he played the game once too often, and landed In the federal penitentiary in February, 1910. Mr. WalBh was born. In County Cork Ireland, and came to America more than sixty years ago. His early struggle was hard. From a newspa per peddler, he developed Into larger newspaper dealings, gradually acquir ing funds until he gained a place In bank. Thence be fought his way up ward. Finally when his other proper ties demanded more cash than he had, Walsh was charged with drawing money from hit banks for their use. In 1907. the Chicago National, the Equitable Trust Company and the Home Savings Bank, all controlled by Walsh, closed their doors and he was Indicted.
