(Special Star Correspondence.) Trinity College, Durham, N. C, Feb. The Johns Hopkins ,: press has just published as one of the " Univer sity series of Studies in History and Political Science a volume by Dr; W, T Laprade, assistant professor of History at Trinity. Its title is Eng land and France, 1789-1797, and the author throws new and interesting light on the relation between these two nations. His conclusions are that thp French Revolution r had-little-, di rect influence on the English; people, but sympathy "for' the revolution was distorted into an issue by William Pitt for the purpose of disrupting" the Whig party, and when that .was accomplish I'd. it was used as a 'means of "renew ins the century-old 'conflict t for com mercial supremacy- : :. It is also of interest to note that Dr. L.apraae intends to continue his study of England and France into and through the, Napoleon ic period.
