Fluctuations Ranged Within Eight Points Spot Market Closed Quiet. v Xew York, Nov. 12. The cotton market was very quiet today with business chiefly in the way of even ing up for over the week-end, or pend ing f isn developments. . Prices, fluc tuated within a range of about eight points, with the close quiet, but stea dy net one point higher to four points lover. ( . - , . x , The opening was steady . at a de cline of 1 to 5 points in response' iO indifferent cable's and private advices from Liverpool claiming tuat Ihe South' was offering cotton more freely at yesterday's advance. Southern ad vices, however, claimed continued firmness on the part opbolders and offerings here were by, no means ag gressive. At any rate prices firmed up right after the call on. covering for over the week-end .and during the early trading show ed a. net : gain ot about 2 to 4 points. There was a little more, selling around 14.90 for May and the; market eased off again later in the j morning, but showed no weakness and ruled very quiet after the first half hour. Sentiment r garding the size of the crop seemed to be very much con fused. . Receipts at the ports "today 45,202 bales against 51.661Nlast week and 39, 175 "last year; for the week 350,000 bales against 376,608 last, week and 277,066 last year.. Today's, receipts at New Orleans 5,151' bales,, against' 4,.; 688 last year and at Houston '11,472 bales against 10,393 last year. : .
