The -remains of the three men,; R. 'A., John -on, II. T. Pcjrternd FFedJerfllgi, of Benson, Johnston county;, who Vere found last nlgk in "a Tobmja the iri f on Apartments, are being "held', here at the undertaUniesialis'enjf-'j, ii. Brown Co.,. for the' relayed arrl Aal of relatives pt .the 11 from Ben: sen. I ' .- v S: ... hH , They were to have reached here on fa early morning train, but failed, to show up. Investigation has developed the fact that the gas sapply in. the Wil son Apartments was ou(.of order Sun day night andj Monday morning until the gas company sent a man to blow accumulated water out of the pipes, l or some time people all over the city have had trouble from thia accumula-. tion of water I in the pipes? that pre? u nts or greatly j reduces the .flow ..of "gas. The pipes .were,. 'blown, out .on day forenoon, j It is believed now that w hen the three men went to their 100m Sunday night they tried to light the gas and this clogging of , the pipes jirevented the flow of gas and in, the confusion the heater and the jet were 1,0th left turned on.. There is no clerk in the apartments to whom complaint cMild be made; They failed to notice the slight flow of gas; that probably sickened them fas the night 'r advanced. There is evidence that some groaning was heard early Monday;morning but not enough, it seems, to haive caused en investigation, j Then Monday morti ir.g when the pipes were blown out by tte gas men the full flow, of gas swept into the room, and completed . the asr. 1-hysiation, . That .he smell- of . the j,as did not penetrate the entire build ing to a very noticeable degree ia ack counted for by the fact that the rooms the young men had were on tthe top ficor, with close-fitting door, and an outside window through which there vas considerable opportunity for the gas to escape, although the window was closed. : a.' . . "- ' ' The report that R. A .' Johnson was to have been married Monday to Misg Kdna Weeks, I th . young lady who came with then in automobile from Benson Sunday, which comes from a man who lives' in the home of Oscar lias well, where she visits here, adds a touching bit of romantic human inter est to the case.. V' :- Coroner Seaparks has decided hold no inquest over the bodies of ' the three men, the cause .of -.their, death, being so clearly accidental, r. t-A Fred Jerniga'n was, a son ni the pro prietor of the Central Hotel at Ben son. R. A. Johnson has been in the V ij 1 1 1 grocery ousiness unui laieiy ana was entering the live stock busfness. Por ter was only. about J6V years of age, a ton of Nathan PorteY, of Benson. ' '' J. G. Jerhigaiv -Thomas-Johnson and Nathan Ported fathers or the three young; .'menwho ,were,u found dead of asphyxiation-last'' night in.theH Wilson Apartments, arrivedhere: this morning and have taken the necessary preliminary jsteps for having the .cor oner hold an .inquest.' The . deaths seemed so clearly accidental that the coroner did not feel. warranted in call ing in a jury without affidav. asking i'or this course which was made. The victims left Benson, it seems, for Ra leigh Sunday at 12:15 o'ciock, Jerpi pan running the machine . which . he and his father operated in. connection with the Central Hotel they ran. There is confirmation today of the repcrt that R.' A.! Johnson, one of the victims was to have been married yes terday to iss Edna Weeks who, with Miss Mary Haswell, were the girls in the party mat came from Benson In the automobile. ! Miss Weeks is a aaughter of Will Weeks,- police, officer at Benson. The fathers' of the three young men are Insisting ,tthat there must have been some foul play in con rection with the death of their sons, as they were entirely too well inform ed to be victimized through -ignorant manipulation ofVgas ittiresi ' ':' A splendid oil painting 'of J they la- mentea Former TChiei ;-J:Uauce.Jan3s l?
