"'initr thA nar. two days, and it looks now like the original civil term will stand as ordered without any pre vision for any special criminal court. The chairman of the county com missioners and a number 'of citizens sent a petition for the change to .criminal term with Judge Carterto preside and the Governor yesterday i?ave out a statement that: this change vwould be fmade as requested.' , How ever, telephone and telegraph wires between Asheville and Raleigh got in play and brought about a withdrawal ?of the 'order .'for fthe crijnintfl teraot. In ad dition to the usual Thanksgiving ser vices in the city churches,. today was featured - by"a :' number -of - special events. "-Ldberal offerings were receiv ed for the various church and frater nal ' orphanages. Something tike $400 was given to the Oxford Orphanage T)f the Masons and their friends; while the ' Methodist " and -i Presbyterian churches ' did even ' better .or as well for their Institutions. The Odd Fel lows, Episcopalians and Christians re ceived 'liberal offerings for the several institutions.- The annual Thanksgiving service at the State' Normal College under the auspices of the Young "Women's Chris tian Association, was held at 9 o'clock. Leah Slaughter and Mary Towers rendered an attractive selection. .
