Various obscure stocks fluctuated widely, buf among the standard shares . variations were insigulticaut. , 'Small gains were made at the outset. London buying up the list for a time', but traders took advantage of the rise to take lronts on long stock. The manifest cur tailment T)f buying eucouraged the shorts, and the market lost its opening advantage. But little was accomplished other than to check the upturn. The undertone was too strong to permit of extensive bear selling.
