SPIRITS TURPENTINE Steady, a LITTLE ACTIVITY IN STOCKS Trading iu First Half Lightest for Weeks Extensive Selling Movemen ' Later. New York, April 27. Such avtivity as was manifested by today's stock market was almost wholly at the ex pense of quoted values. Trading in the first half was the lightest of any day for several weeks, but in the last hour an- extensive selling movement wiped out a good part of the early gains and caused some net losses. ' Seeling was preceded by reports on Italian political developments. There Were some recoveries from lowest, notably, United States Steel, but the closing was distinctly irregular. Steel was the chief feature of the session resuming its place as leader. It registered a small decline at first but grew steadily stronger and was at its best. when late liquidation changed its course. , Coppers were less ' prominent than heerotfore, despite' a higher' quotation for the metal. Investment issues in the railway division evinced a firmer tendency until overtaken by concerted liquidation. Bonds were fairly firm on a moderate amount of dealings iies, par value, aergreftrated $5,584,000 United States call. bonds unchanged on New York Stock List.
