Nervous Price changes resulted in 'cotton rere today from conflicting influences, the market having no very decided tenden cy although toward the end it broke an rlthe close showed net losses of 25 to 41 points. Liquidation of long con tract?; by .traders who were desirous f evening up over the pending bureau report on condition and ginning was the strongest factor against the mar ket, although at times short selling a3 heavy. " Around the opening the market was lower and the decline continued until the most active months were 32 to 41 Points off. Liberal offerings came from the jong side on this break. New York, Sept. 25. After an early period' of indecision, today's stock mar ket. fended its advance of the pre vious day, many important Issues re cording gross gains of 2 to 4 points. Fjr . the most part this Improvement was surrendered in the final hour when call loans rose to 7 per cent after hav ing been in free supply at 4 per cent. The movement was the broadest and most active of any recent session. No specific ' news or developments attend ed the rise, but from the fact that it was guided largely by representative industrials and standard rails, the im pression pervailed that speculative in terests suddenly found it expedient to align themselves on the constructive side. The fixing of prices on steel and iron by the War Industries board also serv ed to stimulate action for the bull ac count. War shares figured prominent ly but United States Steel was again the outstanding feature. From its opening quotation which represented a nominal loss, Steel yield ed a point unde rweight of heavy of ferings but rose easily to 113 before the money flurry and realizing sales forced it back to 112, closing at 112, a net gain of of a point. Investment rails, shippings, oils, mo tors and a mixed assortment of spe cialties were among the stronger stocks, but coppers and some of the equipments, including Bethlehem is sues were irregular or heavy. Bonds were mainly heavy with great activity in internationals. Liberty 3s moved between 99.98 and 100.02. Total bond sales, par value, aggregated $4, 925,000. U. S. bonds, old Issues, were unchanged on call the coupon 4s ad vancing per cent on a single sale. NEW YORK STOCK LIST.
