New York, Nev. $. The stock mar ket continued at the outset of today's more moderate operations to reflect the disturbing influences created by yes terday's armistice boax. Leaders lost 1 to 5 points but soon recovered, in numerous instances eing succeeded by material gains over the previous day's highest quotations. Wall street is almost unanimously of the opinion that the wir is ended but manifests considerable confusion of sentiment in proceeding to adjust its affairs to peace conditions. War stocks were alternately heavy and storng, ending in the main at ma terial gains on annuoncement of the placing of additional orders by the gov ernment for various supplies, especial ly railway equipment. Rails held their own being the first issues to rebound from the heavy open ing. Further accumulation of low grade shares was again the striking feature of that division. Restricted money conditions did not prevent a renewal of activity presum ably by pools, in oils, motors and to baccos and in the later dealing Bald win Locomotive, American Locomotive, Car and Specialties made substantial response to speculative buying. U. S. Steel was consistently irregular in its le3S active movement between the low of 101 and high of 103, closing at a net gain of a small frac tion. The demand for mateals 6eemed to be founded on tangible ground but gains in that quarter were reduced by the general realizing of the last hour. Sales amounted to 870,000 shares. Domestic as well as foreign bonds forfeited in varying degree their gains of the previous day, liberty issues how ever, displaying firmness. NEW YORK STOCK LIST. Bradstreet's to morrow will say: "Trade continues to taper off rumors of peace effects of influensa the elec tion holiday and light buying rultinj from war weather having repressed opeations and at the same time there is a strongly defined tendency to mark time whllL trying to sketch out the probable breath of readjustments to follow the peace now1 apparently in sight. "In fact the roseate outlook, in Eu rope with premature reports of Ger many having accepted terms submitted by the allied powers have already taken form 1 nthe unsettlement of grain and cotton prices, in cancelations of some orders, in the holding up of contem plated plant extensions and in higher prices fpr securities. Economising and the absence of young men from the list of buyers also have made for some increase in supplies of merchandise and in view of the invltable defeat of Ger many, Irrespective of what that coun try may do in quibbling over terms, the general disposition is to shy away from placing orders when the poten tials suggest lower prices at lease un til readjustments have been worked out.
