SOLDIERS FROM THE FRONT DO NOT RESPECT COUNCILS Berlin, Saturday, , Dec. 14. (By the Associated Press.) Soldiers of the Fifth infantry regiment of the guards division who entered Berlin today ad ministered a direct snub to Herr Mol kenbuhr, who is chairman of the sol diers section of the workmen's and soldiers executive council. It is dif ficult to find another interpretation that that the troops from the front have litle respect for the Berlin soldiers'- council which includes only a few men direct from the firing line. The frfends of Asa Allen Brown, 1506 Market street, will learn with sincere regret that he is seriously ill at the James Walker Memorial hos pital. The monotony of today's dull and professional stock market was occasionally relieved " by movemen-tsT mainly upward, in issues of the speculative class while repre sentative stocks traversed their recent narrow limits. More than a proportionate share of the very meager operations consisted of the popular oils, motors, coppers and shippings, together with some of the foodstuffs specialties which usual ly follow in their train. The strength of oils attracted at tention because of advices received ov er the week-end indicating a recur rence of unsettled conditions south, of the Rio Grande. Mexican Petroleum, however, scored an extreme gain of 4 points while Royal Dutch oils and Pan American Petroleum also registered very substantial advances. Rails and seasoned industrials and equipments were steady to firm but the light inquiry for those shares was again ascribed to post-war problems affecting transportation and .industrial conditions, these reasons applying with equal force to the copper trade. Firmer tendencies developed in the final hour, the government crop report exerting a favorable influence on its showing of a 16 per cent in winter wheat acreage and a material Improve ment of general conditions over tha average of the past ten years. Aside from moderate reactions in shippings and oils, the market regis tered maximum quotations shortly before- the close, U. S. Steel gaining a point and coppers, denoting short cov ering. Declines of 1 to 2 points in leading railway, issues caused a heavy bond market, although liberty issues were steady and Internationals scarcely al tered. Total sales, par value, $10,675, 000. Old U. S. bonds unchanged on call. NEW YORK STOCK LIST.
