D., North Carollia state geologist, has written from Chapel Hill, to Represetative Godwin asking his support of an appropriation by congress for a "super-power 3urvey." It is set out that such a survey . would look to the saving of millions of tons of coal and otherwise benefit the - people of the country. Dr. Pratt, who is director of the North Carolina Geo ' logical and Economic survey, writes to Mr. Godwin as follows: Dr. Pratt's Letter "Enclosed is copy of a resolution re cently passed by the American Associ 1, ation of State Geologists in regard to an appropriation by congress for a ' super-power survey. "There are few things more impor tant than the proper utilization and der velopment of our waterpowers,. not only for the promotion of industry, but, as suggested in this resolution, , for the saving of coal and reducing the freight burden of the railroads. The North Carolina Geological and Economic survey is vitally .interested in the waterpower development and we J are planning, with our meager re sources, to begin a water resource sur vey of the state this summer. "Such a survey by the federal govern ment would be of inestimable value to North Carolina, and I sincerely hope that you will give this measure your earnest and active support." The resolution referred to, which was recently passed by the American Association of State Geologists, is as follows: Super-Power Survey "Whereas, there has been presented to the congress a plan for a survey of the power1 requirements of the Wash . ington-Boston industrial area, and "Whereas, the Association of Ameri can State Geologists is aware that such a survey is a necessary first step toward the saving of tens of millions of tons of coal each year, and will help ,1.. Via irrat freieht burden of the railroads in the most congested industrial region of the country, and "Whereas, we believe it is the duty of the government to further this great saving for the welfare of the citizens both of the present and future. "Be It Resolved, that we heartily approve this 'super-power survey -.nd urge upon the congress the advis ability of making this year the needed appropriation ; and . "Be it further, resolved, that keacn state geologist send a copy of this resolution to each member of his state delegation in congress in order that the stand of this body be brought to his attention." - . Mr- Godwin indicated that he is ereatly interested in the proposition and that he would do all in his power to secure federal aid for the move ment, believing, as he does, that It would be a great economic saving to the people.
