The result of the election will not affect their territory. But -hould the free-rangers win . the elec tion this territory will . have to bear the 'burden of constructing and main taining all fences on ; the lines ' Of all stock law territory. South Carolina Ws under state-wide stock law Jan t "IJarv 15th. 1921. and Columbus county borders the state for a number of miles. It is sajd if stock , law is -not -arried that it will necessitate; the con struction of about one hundred and thirty miles of fence, and that ..the mst will be between fifty and - one hundred thousand dollars. After the election is held there will remain only ihout two months to build this fence before our sister state -ges under the stock law. and to accomplish this in jo short a time is practically impos sible. There are no funds available it this time for this purpose, and the noney would either have to be bor wed or bonds issued to secure the ;ame. And. it is the opinion" of -a rreat number of people that .North Carolina will pass under state-wide itock law in the next few years, at most. Taking all these matters under consideration the outlook for carry ing the stock law at the election ap pears very bright. A great many men who have heretofore been very, bitter opponents of the law, are how strong adherents and outspoken in their con victions that a vote for the stock law vill be a vote wisely cast. r The tax rate in this couatjr was rroatly reduced by the board of county .ommissioners at their regular meet ng last IMoniay in Whiteville.
