NEW DRY DOCK OPENED AT FORE RIVER; PLANT Development Gives- Boston Facilities Only Available At Navy Yards- (Special to The Star) ! - QUINCY, Mass., Feb, 1. 'A new 10.000 ton drydock was opened at the Fore i river Diant'of the Bethlehem Shipbulld- ing corporation. Ltd.. today, wnen .me Calvin Austin, which has been on the New York-Boston run- was drydockea for reconditioning anS repairs. This new development gives the port of Boston facilities that have hereto: fore been available only in the navy yards. - The new dock-will take vessels 525, feet overall, with a draft of 27. feet. Although its lifting: capacity is rated at 10,000 tons, it will take vessels about 20 per cent in excess of that figure. The pontoons, each of which is 116 feet long, were buiit at Solomon's isl and, on the Chesapeake, and the 1,700 tons - of steel work was fabricated at the Steelton plant of the Bethlehem Steel company. A tug has brought the pontoons up the coast in twos or threes, connected by bridles, with 1,000 feet of sea room between them, so that the last three make a tow nearly three- quarters of a mile long.- In connection with the dock there ' has been built a concrete mooring pier 50 feet wide by 600 feet long, wun a timber extension 200 feet long, and also v a marginal wharf 30 feet by 500. For the installation "with its approaches, a great deal of dredging-has been-done, which has materially . improved the ship water facilities opposite the yard, providing a main ship channel that is now 29 feet mean water. , The dock, which is of the Donnelly type, represents the last word in con--L struction of the kind, and has several ; novel features. The control house in cludes of fice,s. for. the dock master and entire clerical force, accommodations for the captains of the vessels under ' going-repairs, and a machine shop and a pipe shop, for small repairs.1 f Tnere are two pumps on eacu oi m ten pontoons, and each pump is ope"r ated by a fifty-horsepower motor working . on three speeds. From the - control house the pumps can be -run . either individually or all at once, thus providing perfect stabilization. The pontoons can be emptied.' in an hour and a half. A system of electric cap stans, iwith oneat the end of the moor ing period and other on the wing walls, is used in guiding vessels -in. and out - of the dock, and makes it possible to place a ship exactly over the keel blocks. , Th("r Is rnmnlftte ninlAfir for stpam. air and tank-water, as well' as plug: outlets on each wing -wall for trans- mission, of powe.r to ships. Ample il lumination is provided for night work. LEAKING ROOF DAMPENS 2(T BARRELS OF FLOUR Roseboro Had Six.. Inches of . HOW DOCTORS TREAT COLDS v AND THE FLO First Step in Treatment Is a Brisk Purgative With Calo tabs, ilieirified and Refined CojneLTalets That Are Nausealess,- Safe and Sure. Doctors .have found by experience, that no medicine for colds and influ enza can he .deprn.ded ..upon fov full ef fectiveness until the liver is made thor oughly attitiv-. That is why the first step "in tfae treatment is Ihe" new, nau seale.ss calomel tablet called Calotabs, which 'are free from the sickening and weakening effects of the old style cal omel. Doctors also point out the fact that an active liver may go a long way towards preventing influenza and is one of the most important factors in en abling the patient to successfully with stand an attack and ward off pneu monia. One Calotab on the tongue at bed time, with a swallow of water that's all. No salts, no nausea nor the slight est interference with your eating, pleas' ure or work. Next morning your cold has vanished, your, liver is active, your system is purified, arid you are feeling fine, with a hearty appetite for break fast. . Druggists sell Calotabs only in original sealed packages, price thirty five cents). Tour money will be cheer fully refunded if you do not find them delightful. You've probably heard of this well-, known plan of making cough syrup at home. But have you ever used it? When you do, you will understand why vhousands of families, the world over, feel that they could hardly keep house without it. It's simple and cheap, but the way it takes hold of a cough will quickly earn it a permanent , place in your home. . Into a pint bottle, pour 2 ounces of Pinex; then add plain granulated sugar syrup to fill up the pint. Or, if desired, use clarified molasses, honey, or corn syrup instead of sugar, syrup. It is really wonderful how quickly this home-made remedy j conquers a cough--usually in 24, hours or less. It seems to penetrate through every air passage, loosens a dry, hoarse or tight cough, lifts the phlegm, heal the mem branes, and gives almost immediate re lief. These little olive colored tablets are th result of Dr. Edwards' determination not to treat liver and bowel complaints with calomel. The pleasant little tablets do the good that calomel does, but have no bad after effects. They don't injure the teeth like strong liquids or calomel. They take hold of the trouble and , quickly correct it. Why cure the liver at the expense of the teeth? Calomel sometimes plays havoc with the gums. So do strong liquids. It is best not to take calomel. let Dr. Edwards' Ohve Tablets take its place. Headaches, "dullness" and that lazy feeling come from constipation and a disordered liver. Take Dr. Edwards Olive Tablets when you feel "logy and "heavy." They "clear" clouded brain and "perk up" the spirits, 15c and FOR SEiPB Zemo. the Clean.
