SAMPSON COURT OPENS COUPLE OF DAYS LATE Judge and Solicitor Had Been Detained By; Duplin Murder l!rial (Special to Tli t Star) CLINTON, Feb. lO.-f-TJh term of oourt scheduled to bfJsta.Wre Monday opened only yesterday. Judge Bond and Solicitor Powers having been de tained Monday and Tuealay through failure to complete the trial of " a murder case in Duplin coul-t last week. Judge Bond's charge to he jury was a most impressive o. 'In. fact, the ch&rees to the juries dufiing the last year or two have ben . exceedingly valuable lessons in ctvias and good citizenship for the throngs .that at tend the first day sessions of the court, and Judge Bond's charge. ' if anything, exceeded the best of tin ethers in value. Particularly strong was his plea for respect for the law and ?Us condem nation t the Tnob spirit.. Cifcing the Goldsboro affair as an illustration, he said: "There wasn't a roan, in the crowd that wanted to protect society. There is in no lynching mob iany man whose desire is to uphold the. law. On the contrary, such a mob is composed of outlaws and cut-throats. There is neither manhood nor 'bravery Mn being , one of a hundred armed men who butcher a defenseless "victim. I do not mean to reflect upon the good: people of Wayne county; it is ia great county, but in it and in all counties are bad men." The receipts of the COinton postof fice have for quite a Wile been suf ficiently large to justify the inaugura tion of a free delivery .service, but there having been no poplar demand for such a service, it has mever been authorized by the postofWce depart ment. However, the demanjrt is arising, and a petition is being quiie generally signed, asking the postal authorities to institute the service. A subordinate grange, composed of 28 charter members, was organized at Salemburg Monday evening under the direction of National Grange Deputy DeLancey and members of the Lowell grange of Clinton. A good deal of en thusiasm was manifested. J. A. Tur lington was dhosen master, Mrs. W. J. Jones, lecturer. Mr. DeLancey ex- presses ntmseir as very mncn pieasea with what he saw and heard at Sa- lemburg, possEbly tlue most unique vil lage in the whole country, and known far and wide as the first model rural community. BRITISH AND DANISH PEOPLE WANT A SYSTEM OF BARTER LONDON, Jan 24. (Correspondence J Associated Press).
