SINN FEIN HAS AS YET NO HOME RULE POLICY Sentiment of Southern Ireland Would Reject the Home Rule Government ; DUBLIN, Feb. 7.- Correspondence Associated IJress). Though the Sinn Feiners generally reject the home rule act, their organisation has not yet of ficially determined its line of tactics in relation to It. The; chief secretary,. Sir Homar Greenwood, - and the high officials are busy with' plans for putting the act Into force in the south, and are ex ploring the possibilities of finding can didates who will face the risk of the ..11. TVi l stnmnala Sinn T7in to de- elde what it will do, and interviews with well known Sinn Feiners reveal three distinct currents of opinion. The largest section, supported, it is said, by the authority of De Valera, be lieves that the act should be complete ly ignored and that Sinn Feiners should neither appear as candidates or exercise the franchise. A smaller section, seeing ,that this course might lead to the election of a sufficient number of persons to con stitute the parliament, think that the Sinn Feiners should contestthe seats and, having: won most of them, refuse to attend the Dublin parliament. This would put the government fb the ne cessity of replacing the duly elected representative., of the country by nom inated men who would, under the not, have all the powers of the parliament. A third, but very small body of 31 nn Feiners are of the opinion that they should not only secure election but undertake the work of government in the new parliament, and use the po sition ro extract extended powers Between thes- rival views Sinn Fern must shortly decide, and there is no oubt that ilin official decision will be & ytd. There is a strong view among all sections of nationalists that the fair est way for the government to test Irish opinion on the new act would be to submit it by referendum to the whole people. Leading Sinn Feiners have expressed themselves as , quite willing ttiat this course should hs taken, and are confident that in south ern Ireland the veTdict for its rejec tion would be almost unanimo'.. BA1DIXG STILLS NOT LIKED BY PROHIBITION COMMISSIONER (Special to Tlie Star) . WASHINGTON, Feb. 25. Prohibi tion Commissioner Kramer returned today from a "moonshine still hunt" In the Greenville, S. ., section. He says it is dangerous business. His "drive" in the south was not like the elk or ber hunts in Yellowstone park, where the beasts are tame. So much had been said about the visit of Mr. Kramer that he could hardly expect a southern mountain moonshiner to be about when he raided with the officers. Mr. Kramer was back at his desk today after having witnessed "a raid" by his enforcement officers in South Carolina. ..While he admits that.it was athrll ling experience, he intimated he would not, particularly care for the Job of leading such "raids." Need of restoration of gold standard in' Great Britain was currency association recently held lere. Sir eorge . Paish. financial expert : who visited the United States, about a ' year ao, said the financial position of this country would not be sound until the eold standard was restored. "We sould then be able to pay for things we - require from other countries in goods or services without needing oredit operations and without fearing the gold drain from this country,"., he -said. "The gold standard of Europe i must also be re-established. We will not be able to resume the gold stand ard here until we are . able' to put out new capital abroad to the extent of 100,000,000 pounds." ' D. M. Mason, who presided, said the . chancellor of the exchequer had estl- "mated -that -he would have at the. end sf the fiscal year a surplus of 234,000, fl00 . pounds which he proposed to 'use for the reduction of the public' debt Mr. Mason suggested that If 50,000, 000' or 100,000.000 pounds were set 'slde for the purpose of gradually re deeming the redundant currency, in a comparatively short time there would be parity of exchange between Great BrHaln.'ahd the United "States and other rold standard countries. SIXDAT TitEATFR I VOTED DOWN, BY LONDON PLAYERS LONDON, " Feb.5 (Correspondence Associated Press). British , actors and actresses have no desire to' emulate their fellow" players, in America by giv ing .Sunday theatrical performances. A proposal to open London theaters on Sundays has Just been, voted down by an overwhelmins; majority at a meeting- organized by the British Drama league.' Most of those who voted: were members -of the theatrical profession. The suggestion' that' plays be given on Sunday was made by "Arthur Bouch ler, an actor, and Father Adderley..- a popular socialist divine.' ' Mr. Bouchier said that only such plays should be produced on Sundays as did not occupy the ' usual weekly bill and that acting-on Sundays should be optional. Any attempt at coercion, he declared, should be made Illegal. ', ' Father Adderley urged' that it was a question of common sense, not of re ligion, that , the fourth commandment had long ceased to be God's1 law. vHe believed that Sunday should be a day of recreation, and that f If there Is one thing that really does recreate It is seeing a play." - ' George - Bernard Shaw quickly - had the house roaring with laughter. He began .by supporting the proposal. with extraordinary enthusiam, in 'his " ca pacity of playwright who wanted- to make money out of his plays, and end ed by condemning it wijfch .even greater iervor. as a "mend of, the actor.";- "If you give up your present Sunday holiday under the Impression that Sun day will be- any different from other days in'the theater, or that you will be getting any more-money fof seven day s' work th an for six, then I , shall continue to hold the, same opinion of your political intelligence, as members of the British "public as I- have held in the past.
