Mr. Neel, in company with his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Hudson, and his wife left Sunday for Wilson, where he underwent an operation for his eye, and was thought to be getting on nicely. He called his wife, who was sleeping in the same room, and told her he had difflcuity in breathing. Ef forts for his refief proved to be un availing, and in a short while suc cumbed. The deceased came here from South Boston, a number of years ago, and had made many friends while liv ing here, where he had been engaged , in farming. He is survived by his wife, one daughter. Mrs. W. C. Hud Bon . and Beveral grandchildren. The funeral services were held here Thurs day afternoon, and interment made in .the family plot in the local cemetery. Of ficers will be selected for the next year. W. K. Holt, of Burlington, is president of the association. VETERAN MISSIONARY DEAD TOKIO, April 13. Rev.-J." C. Brand, for 31 years a missionary in Japan for the American Baptist Mission society, died at his home in Tokio after an Ill ness of a year. Porn in Scotland 72 years ago, Mr. Brand went to the United States while a young man and came out to Japan to work in the mission field in 1890.
