The condition of Mrs. Retha Rich ardson, who is very sick, remains prac tically unchanged. Her daughter, Mrs. Valno Creasv, of Wilmington, is with her, also her sister, Mrs. Weinberg. Misses Blanche Dvson and Gladys Waters spent Wednesday in Wilming ton. Hake Waccamaw is beginning to have its usual quota of picnics. The White vllle Methodist Sunday school held a well-attended picnic there Thursday. A very delightful week-end party of Whiteville young folks, chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Moyers, occupied several of Mr. High’s cottages at the lake this past week-end. Miss Laura Howell returned from Wilmington on Thursday afternoon. Miss Howell was maid of honor at the marriage of Miss Helen Dunn Creasy to Mr. Ernest B. Hunter, of Greeneboro. Miss Margaret Howell played the wed ding march, and rendered several se lections during the ceremony. Mr. N.'B. Chestnutt is in Raleigh at tending summer school. Upon his re turn he will take some of the White ville Boy Scouts to Lake Waccamaw. Mr. E. K. Proctor took some of the Scouts down there this week to the encampment. These two gentlemen are the Whiteville scoutmasters. Mrs. L. J. Spivey was taken suddenly and seriously ill on Tuesday night, but Is now better. Dr. C. L. Wooten has returned to Whiteville and has opened an office over the up-town branch of the Bank of Whiteville. Mrs. J. F. Baikley has as her guest her niece, Mrs. Byers of Baltimore, who formerly lived here. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Dixon, formerly of Whiteville, now of Manning, S. C., have been the guests of their daugh ter, Mrs. Walter High. The Tuesday, afternoon club was en tertained this week by Miss Letha Mc Kenzie. The Thursday afternoon sewing club met this week with Mr*. W. F. Spears; Mrs .Morrison Formy Duval enter tained the club last week. Rev. D. W. Herring will preach at the Whiteville Baptist church tomorrow morning, and his son, Rev. Ralph Her ring, will preach at night. Rev. Mr. Herring and family are well known to Wilmington folks and have many friends there. One of the colored prisoners in the county jail is sick with a well-devel oped case of smallpox'.
