Every time some/ \ boy friend calls on me, Dtfd puts him to work!” / Johnston Four-H Club Members Help Farmers SMTTHFIELD, March 17.— Johnston county 4-H club mem bers of Four Oaks, Meadow, and Benson are aiding farmers and making a small profit for their school treasuries at the same time, reports Assistant Farm Agent Edmund Aycock. Treating cottonseed before planting time has become a state-wide practice in the past few years, yet the job is trouble some unless proper epuipment is available. So Johnston club members had treating machines built and offered to treat seeds for 15 cents a bushel. They are now doing a rush business, Agent Aycock said. MARKETFORFARM STOCK IS STEADY Quotations For Peanuts Have Been Wobbly For Past Few Weeks, However RALEIGH, March 17.—Although the market for cleaned and shelled peanuts has been wobbly for the past few weeks, the market for farm ers’ stock has remained steady, B. Troy Ferguson, district agent of the State college extension service, said today. However, with the continued slightly weaker tendency on the mar ket for finished goods, farmers’ stock peanuts also have begun to sag a trifle in price. Some holders, believing that a scar city will develop later in the sea son, continue to hold for the prices at which they have been quoting. This has resulted in a rather wide price range. Quoting the latest peanut report of the U. S. bureau of agricultural eco nomics, Ferguson said millers are 180 Legal otherwise the property will be dis posed of according to law. R. E. Tut tle, District Supervisor. CLASSIFIED DISPLAY BOOST IN TURKEY PRODUCTION SEEN Forecast Is Based On Increase Of Birds In State On January 1, 1940 RALEIGH, March 17. — An in crease in turkey production in North Carolina this year was pre dicted today by C. F, Parrish, ex tension poultryman of State col lege. He based his forecast on the fact that there were 1J.6 per cent more turkeys on Tar Heel farms on January 1, 1940, than on the same date in 1939. “Turkeys on the farm January 1 of each year are mostly breeding stock,’’ Parrish said. “Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that more North Carolina farmers plan to hatch eggs and raise turkeys this year than last year." On January 1, 1639, there were 68,000 turkeys reported on the farms of this state, and on the first of this year there were 80,000 birds reported on the farms. The latest report of the Agri cultural Marketing service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture predicts a two per cent increase in home-hatching of poults in the South Atlantic states, of which North Carolina is one. Continuing his quotation from the federal report, the State college specialist said “the South Atlantic states supplied about eight per cent of the turkeys raised in 1935. Ac cording to a survey conducted among turkey growers, with 442 replying to questionnaires sent out, there are three per cent more tur key hens on hand; there will he fewer hatchery poults bought; and home-hatching of turkeys will be increased.” paying 3 3-4 cents a pound for besl Jumbos, but there seems to bo a low ering of the price level for other grades of farmers’ goods of the Vir ginia type. Shelling stock, for example, is gell ing all the way from 3 1-4 to 3 6-8 cents, with some sales even lower. Spanish farmers’ stock is rather nor mal at $1 to 31.05 per 30-pouno bushel. Stocks in the hands of millers are steadily lessening since most of them are running their factories primari ly from the peanuts which they have had in storage for some time and are adding to them only slightly by pur chases. As these stocks lessen, the pros pective demand on the part of millers Increases, and it is on this basis that larger holders of farmers’ stock are looking for a better demand and a higher price level in the near fu ture. Buyers in the city market are pur chasing primarily on a hand-to mouth basis, waiting to see how the market trend may shift during the coming few weeks. Soon to start will be the plan combining passenger train and auto mobile rental service. Under the plan long train trips will be broken by part-time travel in automobiles. rWT REASONS ivm” VOC WILL LIKE OCR SERVICE t—No co-signers. 2—No collateral. 3—No ques tioning of employers or friends. 4—immediate service. 8 — Conveniently located. « — All transac tions held In strictest confidence.
