Carolina Beach Is Ready To Greet Many Visitors Resort Is Headed Toward Another Great Season, Says Mayor Fergus It is a dimmed-out but glamor ous Carolina Beach which vaca tionists will visit this summer. But there are only eight hours of the dim-out per day—and 16 of bright, glorious sunlight in which to en joy fishing, sunbathing, surf bath ing, bicycling and real beach liv ing. The visitors at Carolina Beach this year will be urged to head for the boardwalk during the twi light hours so that they won’t miss a trick caused by the dim-out of the fun-way. None of the stores or rides will be affected at night on the ocean front boardwalk. In spite of transportation prob lems, Carolina Beach is headed for another great season, Mayor R. C. Fergus declared. At the beach resort, which boasts not a single life lost in 10 years. 50 per cent of the cottages are already occupied. Many build ing permits were issued durifig the winter and about 20 cottages have been built since last year. While there may be such things as tire and gas rationing, Caro lina Beach officials are reporting business rushing at a mid-June clip and judging by the early sea son crowds, record breaking in size, the dim-out is one of the best attractions and Jhe ration cards are tickets to the fun. The war has no changed the desirability of a vacation to Caro lina Beach this year. As a con sequence more effort than ever before will be made by the re sort’s leaders to make the guests welcome and to provide for the time of their lives. In keeping with the new mode of doubling up to fill the autos, house parties will be a feature of the coming season. Families will pool their gas cards and six and eight vacation-bound folks will pile into the automobile for a lenghthy stay at Carolina Beach. Along the boardwalk the vaca tionist will find plenty of bowling T alleys, a modern theatre, billiards, souvenir shops, games of chance and skill, quick lunch pop-ins, a number of thrilling rides, dancing under the stars—the complete bag of fun-making tricks. There is nothing in North Caro lina which equals the gay. Mardi Gras spirit which prevails for three solid months along Carolina Beach amazing midway. By chance or by unusual foresight on the part of the town’s earty fa thers, the heart of Carolina Beach is at the midway. Shipyard workers and their fam. ilies, and servicemen are expected to take over Carolina on week ends and throughout the seven days of each week this season. Most „ visitors are expected to spend their entire vacation at the beach resort, Cliff P. Lewis, prom inent beach realtor, said Vacationists at Carolina Beach this summer will have the use of one of the only municipally owned sewerage systems on any beach in the south, according to Mayor Fergus. The system will cover the whole of Carolina Beach. A total of $187,000 of both WPA and beach funds is estimated to be expended in the project. The new Town Hall, built at a cost of $40,000, is completed and is one of the most beautiful build ings on any beach south of At lantic City. 2 -V Value Of USO Stressed By B. F. Sutherland To further the interest in the coming U. S. O. campaign for operating funds, B. F. Sutherland, associate general chairman for the New Hanover War Fund Cam paign for U. S.
