The offer was made in a unani ously-adopted resolution which declared that the property is being purchased for -'public use.” Included in [he offer is the old Marine hospital, adjacent buildings and all other improvements on the property Negotiations for the purchase of jijp site have been underway by .1,5 city since 1023 when Congress passed an act authorizing the Sec tary of the Treasury to sell the si;e It has been in the posses sion of the government since 1857. The purchase price regulated by the OCT was said to be “not less than S20.000. ’ Several months ago, the city tvas approached by the Treasury Department’s division of public Buildings to see if the city was still interested in purchasing the site. / The council indicated that it was and included an appropriation of <25.000 for the old hospital and grounds is) the new budget. ° The additional $5,000 of the ap propriation is tentatively earmark ed for improvement of the grounds and the purchase of play ground equipment. " The council yesterday also approved the execution of a con tract between the city and the county for the joint operation of the new 250-watt police radio transmitter, for which an appli cation for a Federal license to operate is still pending. Under the terms ol tne contract, Councilman Edgar L. Yow said, the county will operate two two way radio cars through the sys tem and pay the city 20 per cent of the cost of the operation 'of the transmitter for the privilege. The city will also maintain the coun ty's radio units with the county furnishing replacement parts. The contract was required by the Federal Communications com mission. Councilman Yow said, before the commission would con sider granting a license for the 250-watt frequency modulated transmitter which has been pur chased and installed by the city to replace the present inadequate 100-watt police transmitter. Negotiations are also under way, the councilman revealed, to have two-way radios installed in police cars at Carolina and Wrightsville Beaches under a similar arrange ment, thus providing a complete police radio network for the coun ty. Negro Bound Over To Superior Court On Burglary Count Horace Davis, negro, was bound over to Superior Court yesterday on charges of first degree bur glary by Recorder Alton A. Len non while an assault charge against George Howard, negro state s witness, was nol prossed with leave at the recommendation of Solicitor Winfield Smith. The two charges grew out of an incident on October 4 where Davis is alleged to have entered a negro home here to steal clothing and Howard to have detected him and to have shot him five times with a pistol. Davis, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was released from the hospital Tuesday. Police of ficers testified that they found a pile of clothing in the house and a pair of socks, claimed by one of the inmates of the house, in Davis’ pocket immediately after the shooting. The negro’s bond was set at $250 by the recorder. Leroy Shaw, negro, was sen tenced to a total of 90 days on +he roads on Charges of assault with a deadly weapon on Dorothy Moore and of carrying a concealed weapon. Registration For Fuel Oil Ration Slated For October 20-21 In City The registration for this winter’s supply of fuel oil will be held in New Hanover county Tuesday and Wednesday, October 20-21, According to a government sur vey, 1,800 homes in this county are heated by fuel oil but in the judgment of the New Hanover War Price and rationing board there are between 4,000 and 5,000 homes which will be affected by! the rationing. Arrangements are incomplete for the registration, said the board, and announcement as to the time and places will be made later. In the meantime, users of fuel oi- in New Hanover county may give a promisory receipt to ->il dealers for their supply, to be sub stituted by coupons from the ra tioning books when they are is sued.
