He has =;pent more than 15 years in the Naval service. Aiken was born and reared i n Mainland, New Hampshire. In 1936 he was married to Laura Mildred Robbins, of Winnabow and Wilmington. For the past two i years his family has resided at 519 South Front street here. Aiken was serving aboard the ill-fated Meredith, according to his last message late in October. Surviving are his widow, one son, Robert Alvin Aiken, four years old; mother. Mrs. Mable Blood; one sister, Annie Aiken; one broth er, Ralph E. Aiken; grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Bawer; and one aunt, Mrs. Mary Noble. All his relatives reside in and near Manchester, N. H. SELECTED FOR TRAINING Benjamin Mills Washburn, of Wilmington, has been selected for training as a Naval aviation ca det and will be ordered to active duty shortly. PROMOTED Corporal Ed B. White, Jr., of Wilmington, has been promoted to the grade of sergeant. Since February, 1942, Sgt. White has been in foreign service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed B. White, 212 South Ninth street, and is a graduate of New Han over High school. ADVANCED John R. Armstrong, of Rocky Point, who is with the 14th air depot, Duncan Field, Texas, has leen promoted to the grade of sergeant. Godfrey of 140 Woodlawn avenue, charged with reckless operation as the result of a collision between an automobile and a Tide Water Power company bus on dimmed-out Wrightsville beach early Sunday morning in which two persons were injured, by Recorder H. Winfield Smith in county court yesterday morning. Both Godfrey and his wife were admitted to James Walker Me morial hospital after the accident. Godfrey was released yesterday, hospital authorities said today, while Mrs. Godfrey’s condition was described as improved. The accident occurred. Chief of Police Billy Singletary of Wrights viRe beach said, about midway of Capus Waynick boulevard shortly after midnight Saturday. Godfrey, he said, was bound north and apparently pulled over to the wrong side of the road and crashed head on into the Tide Wa ter bus which was driven by L. T. McCormick. COMPLETES TRAINING Private Jack Davis, 17, son of Mrs. J. S. Davis of Castle Hayne road, who entered| the Marine Corps last August, has just com pleted his basic training at Par ris Island, S. C. He is now sta tioned at the New River Marine base. TWO SONS IN ARMY Mrs. Florence M. Simpson, of Atkinson, has two sons serving with the armed forces. Corp. Carl Lee Simpson, Air Corps, has arrived at his destina tion overseas. He entered the Army last February 6, and re ceived his training at Biloxi, Miss. James Simpson, who was sta tioned at Fresno.’ Calif., has been transferred to Sioux Falls, S. Dak., where he is attending a radio technical school.
