EARLY CHRISTMAS MAILING IS URGED All Packages And Parcels Should Be Posted Be fore December 10 Wilmington postoffice officials said Saturday that mailing of greet ings and parcels for this Christ mas should begin in November ‘ and most of them should be depo sited in the postoffice before De cember 10. The slogan of previous years of “Shop Early and mail Early” is more important this year than ev er before, it was said. Over 30,000 United States postal employes have entered the armed services, creat ing a serious shortage in trained personnel. Transportation lines will be overburdened with war traffic during December. . “It is imperative,” officals de clared, “that the public respond to the appeal to mail in November —last-minute gifts not later than December 10.” Every effort is being directed to ward having all Christmas matter mailed in time for delivery before Christmas, and all preparations, plans and organization are being made by the Wilmington postoffice with that end in view. Large advertisers are being re quested to withold heavy mailing of catalogs, calendars, etc., during December. Calendars should be mail sufficiently in advance of De cember 1 to permit delivery be fore that date. This does not apply to current advertising pertaining to holiday sales. In connection with extra help for Christmas, competent men and women on the Civil Service regis ter of eligibles will be given first consideration and next, competent persons who were employed in pre vious years. No maximum age limit is fixed in the employment of temporary substitutes. __y___ BILL SIGNED WASHINGTON.
