Specialty, “My Siutf,” Jane (Continued on Page Thirteen) Margaret DeVane, Martin Barron Wed In Church Miss Margaret DeVane and Martin Leo Barron were married Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, November 16, at St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral by Father Tevlin of St. Mary’s. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, Luther J. De Vane, and wore a blue wool suit trimmed in matching velvet and wore black accessories and a cor sage of tuberoses. Her only attendant was Miss Mary Emma Humphrey. She wore a rose shade dress with black ac cessories and her corsage was of pink and lavender flowers. Andrew Raczynski attended Mr. Barron as best man. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther J. DeVane of Wilmington. Mr. Barron is formerly of Bos ton, Mass., and is affiliated with the North Carolina Shipbuilding company. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Barron of Bos ton, and is a graduate of Massa chusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass. Williamson of Wilmington, took place at the ' uome on November 3. > Ministering Circle Will Hold Annual Bazaar And Sale Soon The Ministering Circle, well known charitable organization of Wilmington, will give the annual Christmas sale and bazaar on Fri day morning, afternoon, and Sat urday morning, December 10 and 11. The sale this year will be held in the display hall of the Tide WaterPower company on Second and Princess streets. • Such home-made articles, espe cially made by the circle mem bers for this sale, as apron sets for maids, bags, swealers, tray sets and numerous other attrac tive and useful articles will be of fered. Also such dainties as cook ies, tarts, cakes, preserves, pick les, jellies and many other deli cacies will be offered. Each year the Circle sponsors a holiday bazaar to raise money to carry on the worthwhile work done in this communitj. Among the worthy projects is a room at James Walker Memorial hospital maintained by the circle and the maintenance of two district nurses in New Hanover county. A special invitation is extended to all new-comers’ and service peo ple located in Wilmington. * * * Masonboro Church Gives Banquet Feting Pastor Who Is To Leave Shortly The Rev. W. C. Francis, who has been pastor of the Masonboro Baptist church for the past two years and who is to leave shortly for a new pastorate, was honored on Friday evening with a delight ful banquet by members of the church congregation. The party was given at the Masonboro Community clubhouse and was attended by some 175 friends of the pastor. The banquet was prepared and served by ladies of the Woman’s Missionary So ciety. During the evening Mr. Francis was presented with a watch from the church congregation with J. Dallas Orrell making the presen tation. JANE RENFROE SAMPEY—Daughter of Col. and Mrs. John R. Sampey, Jr., who is leaving Tuesday for Louisville, Ky., where the family will make their home while Col. Sampey is on overseas duty with the U. S. Army. MRS. CRAIG WILLIAMS—The former Shirley Dixon, daughter of Mrs. J. L. Dixon of Shelby, whose marriage to. Lieut. Williams took place Sunday, October 31. The bride was connected with the Babies hospital, Wrights ville Sound. Lieut. Williams is now stationed at Camp Stewart, Georgia. Service Wives Tour Old Homes In New Bern NEW BERN, Nov. 20.—About 100 members ox the newly-organized local club for servicemen’s wives and other service wives from Cher ry Point and New River partici pated here Wednesday afternoon in a historical pilgrimage to points of interest and old homes in New Bern. In charge of the event was Mrs. R. D. V. Jones, president of the New Bern Woman’s club, who re cently organized the sei'vice wives’ group as a department of the lo cal club. Assisting her were local hostesses and committee members. Among the old hemes open to the visitors were the Taylor-Ward house, Mrs. William F. Ward, host ess; the Marks-Hyman home, Mrs. Frank Hyman and Miss Harriet Marks, hostesses; the John Wright Stanly home, now a public library; the Lee home, Mrs. Wilson H. Lee, hostess; the Jenkins-Duffy house Mrs. Richard N. Duffy; the Slover Guion house Mrs. Rodman Guion; and Jarvis - Slover Hand house, Mrs. Haywood Guion hostess. Cof fee was served at the last house. Also open were the Federal court room, the Catholic church and the Presbyterian church. Pilgrimage plans were made when the club members expressed keen interest in the town following a talk on New Bern’s historical sites and architecture at the club meeting Iasi week by Miss Ger trude Carraway. O. S. Sutherland, presidenl - elect, and Mrs. Charles F. Green, publicity chairman of the Woman’s Auxili ary of the Diocese of East Caro lina, and a report of the recent meeting of the convocation of Wil mington, which was held in St. Anne’s, Jacksonville, will be made by Mrs. Walter R. Burchette, Jr., took place in the chapel of the First Presbyterian church on November 3, at 5:30 o’clock in the afternoon. Dr. William Crowe, pas tor of the church, performed the ceremony. Prior to the ceremony E. H. Munson rendered several se lections and Miss Orma Jean Wil iis sang Oh, Perfect Love. The bride entered the chapel with her father who gave her in mar riage and wore for her wedding a two-piece suit of teal blue with white blouse and brown accesso ries. Her flowers were orchids. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, gift of the bridegroom. Mrs. Farmer, mother of the bride, wore a royal blue velvet dress with a corsage of American Beauty roses. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Margaret Brown Farmer and William L. Farmer of Wilmington. She is a graduate of New Hanover High school. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Burchette Sr., of Fu cuay Springs, is employed at the North Carolina Shipbuilding com pany in the city. Following the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Burchette left for a wedding trip to Lexington, Va., and Wash ington, D. C. MRS. CARLTON M.
