WILMINGTON MAN WINS PROMOTION WASHINGTON, May 4— M—'The War Department announced today the temporary promotion of t h e following North Carolinians: 1st. WAR BOND PAYROLL WEEKSVILLE. May 4 — The U. S. Naval Air Station (LTA) here is one of two Fifth Naval District activities which have secured 100 per cent payroll deduction parti cipation from civilian employees in the Navy’s war bond program, it is reported by the district war bond officer. The only other sta tion matching this record for civil ian allotments is the Portsmouth naval hospital. -V BUY WAR BONDS: AND STAMPS LIONS CLUB HAS WEEKLY MEETING Club Enjoys Extempo raneous Program; Nom inating Meet Is Set The Wilmington Lion’s Club held their regular weekly meeting yes terday in the banquet room of the Friendly Cafeteria and in the ab sence of a prepared program, in dulged in witty chatter and extem poraneous short speeches dealing with various phases of the club’s work. Lion President James Lawson called attention of t h e club mem bers to t h e nominating meeting which will be held in two weeks, on May 18. at which time new club officers will be nominated. The new officers will be elected in June and will be installed at the first meet ing in July. The president also reminded members of National Family Week, which will be observed the week of May 9. A broadcast will be presented over the local station at 9 p.m. Friday night, with Miss Cor delia Foster, Tide Water Power1 Company home service director,1 leading a roundtable discussion | . f ' of family and child problems. Lion D. C. North called atten tion to the Cape Fear Club’s horse show which will be held in Legion Stadium this week-end and urged all members who possibly could to attend. > W. R. Jones, of Jones Furniture Company was inducted into mem bership by Lion North. Lion Frances Beaton introduced as his guest Lawrence Sion, New manager of Armour and company. The meeting was opened with Lion Wick Twining leading the group in the singing of America. Invocation was pronounced by Lion T. J. Baird. County Balance Is Set At $370,991 By Orrell New Hanover county’s treasury held $370,991 at the end of April, according to the monthly report of J. A. Orrell, county auditor. Receipts for the month totalled $42,356, and disbursements amount ed to $81,000. Principal disburse ments included $35,869 to the schools, $6,897 to Old Age assist ance, and $2,352 to dependent children.
