DEPUTY CLERK IS NAMED William C. Shaw, who has been connected with the Imperial Life Insurance Co. here for the past three years, yesterday was sworn in as deputy clerk of the Wilming ton division of the eastern North Carolina district of Federal court He succeeds J. B. Swails, who has assumed his duties with the law firm of Carr, James and Carr. Mr. Shaw received his appoint ment from the Chief Clerk in Ra leigh Saturday and was sworn in by Mr. Swails, who will retain his position as U. S. Commissioner un til a successor is named for Judge I. M. Meekins, who plans to retire soon. The new judge will appoint a commissioner. Mr. Shaw ex plained. A resident of Wilmington for 11 years, Mr. Shaw practiced law in California for five years before coming here. __v_ Guest Ministers Plan Calvary Church Visit A new pastor for Calvary Baptist church has not been called but one of two guest preachers, who will visit the church this week, may be selected, the Rev. Earle L. Bradley, D.D., pastor for the past six years said yesterday. Dr. Bradley, who resigned to ac cept the position of assistant to the General Secretary of the Bap tist State convention and mission ary representative of eastern North Carolina, preached his farewell sermon Sunday and will leave for Raleigh Wednesday. The two guest ministers are the Rev. Walter Wallford, of Carthage, who will preach at 8 p. m. Wednes day, and the Rev. J. S. Tyson, of Kannapolis, speaker for both ser vices Sunday.
