JAYCEES PREPARE FOR PAPER DRIVE A final check-up with commit teemen for the Junior Chamber of Commerce-Boy Scout scrap pa per drive on Sunday afternoon was made at Tuesday night's meeting of the Jaycees. Fifteen trucks have been se cured for the collection with two needed to complete this arrange ment. Four trucks owned by the city will be driven by Buddy Bos well, Iradel Boswell, H. R. Hicks, and Harlee Darden. Names of the other drivers could not be secured, but they will be furnished by the North Caro-! Hr,a Shipbuilding Co.. Housing Au-j thority, Diamond Feed Store, Brooks Wholesale grocery, Home Furniture Co., Hyman Supply Co., Tide Water Power Co., Sunshine Laundry and Wilmington Paper Stock Co. Trucks will be checked-in and weighed, beginning at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, and collections will begin soon afterwards. Citizens of New Hanover county are urged to have every possible amount of scrap paper saved and on the curb by noon Sunday. -V 5. S. American Farmer To Be Launched Saturday The S. S. American Farmer, 206th vessel to near completion at the yard of the North Carolina Shipbuilding Co., will be launch ed Saturday afternoon at 2:45 o’clock under the sponsorship of Mrs. J. B. Woodward, Jr., of Newport News, Va. Mrs. Woodward is the wife of the vice president and general manag er of the Newport News Shipbuild ing and Dry Dock Co. Her attendant will be Mrs. H. Gordon Adkins, of Newport News. The S. S. American Farmer, a C-2 type cargo ship, is being built for the U. S. Lines. Mr*. FDR Doesn’t Think U. S. Should Feed Europe WASHINGTON, March 15.—UP)— Mrs.* Franklin D. Roosevelt does not think the United States should feed Europe by itself. Other nations have things to contribute, she told a news con ference today. The President’s wife had been asked whether she shared fears that the American economy would crack “if we feed Europe.” Her reply: “I do not see why we should feed Europe alone. Other countries can join with us. But I do not thing we will crack. We may have difficulties but we have not" had any hardships here. I do not want us to go without any thing. but we are not going to be asked to feed Europe alone.
