Herbert, pastor of Grace Methodist church, said. The Crusade has as its great objectives a new world order, world relief and reconstruction, evangelism stewardship, and rebuilding church schools. Of the total $63,229 pledged, $36,720 in cash has been col lected, the Rev. Mr. Herbert said, since the beginning of the program last fall. In recent meetings at central points throughout the district, the leaders have pointed to the next immediate emphasis of the next immediate emphasis of the Crusade for Christ — preparation for an evangelistic awakening in Methodism throughout the world. This em phais is scheduled to take pre cedence over all other matters for the remainder of the confer ence year. Immediate steps contemplat ed include meetings of the Crusade and evangelistic com mittees of the churches throughout the district, to as sume responsibility for th e evangelistic task; the training of lay workers in the role as evangelists; the holding of Christian life and church membership classes by each pastor in the district; and a thorough preparation for t he Holy Week and Easter serv ices. Goals set for the district throughout the year include: Revival services in every charge; emphasis on evange lism in pastor’s school and summer conferences; Septem ber and October as church loy alty months; developing the art of winning people for Christ, and additions on professions of faith in all churches. The great Evangelistic cry adopted by the District is “In troduce People to Christ—Build Them Up in Christ—Send Them Forth to Serve Christ.” The Crusade leadership has. set as its high goal “More Peo ple in Every Local Church en gaged in the Major Task of the church, Evangelism.” NAZISEXECUTE MEN AS WARNING STOCKHOLM, March 15.—(JP)— Nazi “flying courts martial” are operating over a wide area of the German Eastern Front and executed men are left under warn■ ing placards where they fall, the Berlin correspondent for the Stock holms-Tidningen reported today after a conducted tour of the front. In a central square at Goerlitz, the correspondent wrote, this pla card was displayed prominently: “Shot by the fury of the people. Here lips Grenadier Dittmar. He was shot following a court martial for stealing. The body of the executed sol dier lay below the placard, the correspondent said, as a warning to passersby against plundering and similar offenses. The correspondent said many similar placards were posted in other squares. At one place, he said, there were notices of at least nine executions of soldiers and politicians doomed for destruction. He said people streamed to see the bodies and that the propaganda appeared to be having effect. -V The Chicago Field Museum con tains a petrified log of redwood from Alberta Canada, which is said to be 100,000,000 years old. -V BUY WAR BONDS AND STAMPS LOVELY EASTER HEADWEAR Just In! MOVIE STRIKE IN STALEMATE HOLLYWOOD, March 15. —W— The film industry strike settled down to a stalemate today, with intervention by some Government agency apparently the only solu tion. Oppising. union groups refused to budge an ' inch in their positions, and film producers repeated that they were hopelessly entangled in the middle. Studios remained in operation, with one or more pictures in pro duction in each plant, but work admittedly was carried on by skeleton crews and the huge lots resembled the ghost towns often shown on the screen. Verbal exchanges continued be tween spokesmen for the confer ence of studio unions and its rival AFL organization, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Em ployes. The CSU held tight to its hole card—a temporary award by the War Labor Board designating its painters local as the bargaining agent for studio set decorators over the protests of the IATSE. The IATSE, demanding that the producers recognize it as the agent for the decorators, continued to send its men past the CSU pick et lines and offer the threat of pulling its projectionists and stagehands out of the Nation’s 18, COO movie theaters if its demands are not met. Screen Actor Guild members will hear the controversy argued by the opposing factions tomor row night, and will ballot by mail. Votes must be in lay mid night next Tuesday. Their deci sion may not alter the issues, but the vote will decide, in effect, whether the studios can operate even on the present meager scale. -V IRISH MARRIAGES LONDON, March 15. — (IP) — Cmdr. T.
