Garden Club Meeting Set For April 10 At the monthly business meet ing of the Cape Fear Garden club, Tuesday morning, April 10, the following officers elected at the March meeting will be installed: President ,Mrs. Henry Gerdes; vice-president, Mrs. Cyrus Hogue; second vice president, Mrs. Dan Penton; recording secretary Mrs. J. B. Cranmer; corresponding secretary, Mrs. W. Eugene Ed wards; treasurer, Mrs. W. E. Cur tis; and historian, Mrs. Lowelll wane. Guest speaker of the meeting will be Miss Gertrude Carraway, of New Bern, w'ho will talk on Conservation. Miss Carraway is well known in North Carolina and is a forceful speaker and has done towards the restoration works of historic sites and homes in the state. Plans will also be completed for the miniature flower show sched uled by the club during May. This meeting will begin at 10:30 o’clock. Members are asked to note the change in hour. Lowe was at home for he week-end from Fort Jackson, Jolumbia PRICE TO PREACH AT TEMPLE TODAY Officials of the New Building Fund Emphasis Day drive of Tem ple Baptist church reported yes terday that pledges amounting to $8,299.25 had been obtained at a victory supper held Thursday night. This was $3,299.25 above the original goal of $5,000. Building fund workers immedi ately thereafter set out to raise an additional $10,000 by today. Of ficials said yesterday that “if we do raise $10,000 by Easter Sun day, th,at Will make over $32,000 now in the New Building fund, $17, 000 of which has been given in the past five months.’’ Dr. Theron D. Price will be guest speaker at the Easter service to day, which is expected to be at tended by at least 50. Four hun dred are expected at the Sunday school service. Amplifiers in the Sunday school rooms and church annex will make it possible for all to hear Dr. Price. A turkey supper was served to the workers participating in the campaign on Thursday night through the courtesy of Louis O. Fonvielle, C. W. Boyette, G. C. Gilbert, and R. B. Roebuck. The tables, arranged in the form of a V, were decorated in the Eas ter . motif of soft shades of pink, lavender, green and white. The colors were repeated in flower ar rangements on each table. Mr. Fon vielle called on the various chair Special Music Planned Today At First Presbyterian Church “The Victory of Faith" will be the theme of the sermon by the Rev. William Crowe, Jr., as the First Presbyterian church this morning at 11:15 o’clock according to an announcement issued yes terday by church leaders. A brief organ recital of Easter music will be given by John E. Pfeil, organist and director of mu sic, on the Sprunt Memorial Skin ner organ. The recital will begin before 11 o’clock and will continue until the opening of the service. “On Earth Has Dawned This Day of Days", by Bach; “Come Ye People, Raise the Strain", by Whitford; and “Al legro Maestoso”, by Handel, will be sung among the themes featur ed in the preludes to the service. The Chancel choir will sing an an them “Open Our Eyes” by Mac farlane and a soprano solo will be sung by Mary Eunice Troy, “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth”, by Handel. Arrangements to ex tend the church’s public address system to the Kenan Memorial chapel to accommodate part of the overflow congregation have been made, it was said. An organ musicale will be the feature of the evening service when the church will present Mr. Pfeil for his first entire service of mu sic since he came a month ago to take over the responsibility of the church’s expanded program of mu sic. Mildred Farrar Murdock, con tralto soloist, will assist Mr. Pfeil in presenting the musicale. Among the organ numbers to be featured will be “Rigaudon” (Ferrari); “As men for their reports of results during the campaign. Reports were made by the fol lowing: Ira D.
