S. 15th Air Force today bombed railyards and bridges along lines leading to Vienna. Fortresses battered the Mari bor railbridge in Yugoslavia near the Austrian border. Officers said it is the only rali crossing of the Drava river which the Ger. mans retain east of Villach, Aus tria, 85 miles to the west. Liberators attacked the St. Poelten railyards, 35 miles west of Vienna, and other targets in that area. The St. Poelten yards are one of two usable rail cen ters left In operation on the main Linz-Vienna line across Austria. Lightning fighter* meanwhile hit railroad targets near Ybbs, 60 miles west of Vienna. The aerial activity came amidst a continued stalemate on the ground in Italy. Only scattered patrol clashes and minor artillery fire were reported by the Allied High Command. There were no changes in forward position*. Twelfth Air Force Headquarters announced the Brenner Pass rail line had been kept out of opera tion throughout March, for the second consecutive month. B-25 Mitchells hammered bridges along the road again today. Thunder bolts strafed a train believed to be carrying more than 500 enemy soldiers, west of ViUach. The fliers had flown more than 2,200 sorties yesterday, mostly in support of the Russian drive. Man, Sought In Death Of Woman, Slays Self PROVIDENCE, R. I., April 1.— UP)—Sought since Friday night on a charge of murdering a Green field, Mass., woman, Harland Pratt, 29, medically-discharged soldier, walked into the New Haven railroad police office today and shot himself to death. Patrolman Frank Huntoon of the railroad police reported that Pratt appeared on the station platform and seemed to be highly nervous. Finally, Hunton said, the man entered the police office, mumbled for a moment and then, drawing a .38 caliber revolver, shot himself in the stomach. The wound not fatal, Pratt rose to his feet and sent a second bullet into his heart. Yesterday, District Attorney Harold Grousbeck of Northamp ton, Mass., obtained a warrant against Pratt, charging him with the murder of Mrs. Fay Kimball Goering, 25, of Greenfield, who was shot to death In her hone Friday night. In letters found in his pocket. Pratt told Grousbeck, according to Inspector Thomas T. Rattigan of the Providence police, that he had killed Mrs. Goering. Medical Examiner Hugh t. Bell pronounced Pratt e suicide. Pratt and Mrs. Goering had been friends since childhood day*. She was the wife of • Navy men and the mother of an 18-months old daughter.
