Loper, Jr., MAM, j-c. has returned to the States and is spending his 30 day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Loper. Long, has returned to Brementon, Wash., aft er spending a 25-day furlough here with his parents. * * * Mrs. Herbert W. Hewlett has re turned from a visit to her daugh ter and son-in-law, Lieut, and Mrs. James L. Walker in Reno Nev., where Lieut. Walker is now sta tioned. * • * Miss Mary Emma Humphrey, student at Peach Junior college, Raleigh, is spending the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Humphrey at their home in E'rookwood. * * * Miss Marie Solomon and Miss Fat McBrien, students at the Wo man's college of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, are spending the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Solomon. * * * L. H. Vnwell of this city, is a patient at the Allen Clinic in Bay City, Mich. * * * Mrs. David Holmes and baby. Ann, of Winston-Salem, arrived Thursday evening and are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Holmes while Pvt. Holmes is serving in the European Theatre. * * * Officers' Wives Club Will Meet The weekly business and social inerting of the Wilmington Of ficers’ Wives club will be held this Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the American Legion home, Third and Dock streets. Hostesses for Wednesday will be Mrs. Robert C. Cantwell, 3rd and Mrs. William Todd. Members of the club work each Friday as hostesses at James Walk er Memorial hospital. McCulloch and the late Mr. McCulloch of Elizabethtown, whose engagement is announced to Mott Parks Blair, 3rd, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Blair of Elizabethtown. Miss Hooks Weds 1st. Sgt. Collins A marriage of unusual beauty and interest to the many of Miss Marceline Hooks, of Chadbourn, and First Sergeant Vernon V.7. Col lins, of Whiteville and Fort Bragg, was solemnized Sunday, March 25. at 5 o’clock in the Smyrna Bap tist church. The Rev. S. M. Lamb, officiated. The church was arranged with cathedral candes in seven branch ed candelabra, lace fern and palms against a solid back ground of evergreens. E'askets of white spyria was used on the al tar and large white satin bows marked the family pews. Prior to the ceremony a mu sical program was presented by the organist, Mrs. Mary Frances Morgan and J. W. Washburn, so loist, who sang “I Love You Truly” and ‘‘0 Promise Me.” The ushers were soldiers from Fort Bragg and members of the same organization as the bride groom. They were Sergeant Bul lard, Sergeant Halos, Sergeant Vaughn, Sergeant Clary, Corporal Balling and Private Thorn. Little Jean Capps, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnie Capps, of Chadbourn, and cousin of the bride, carried the ring in a lily. She wore a pink satin evening gown styled like the bridal attend ants. The maid-of-honor was Miss Eloise Hooks, sister of the bride. She wore a gown of pink satin and net and carried a bouquet of yellow roses. The bridesmaids were Misses Elois Stephens, Elncta Collins, ot Whiteville. Louise Batten, Frances Turner. Miriam Hooks and Ruby Raye Suggs, of Chadbourn, all be ing close friends of the bride. They wore gowns of pastel shades and carried lavender and picardy gladioli in cascade bouquets. The bride who was given in marriage by her brother, Neil 1-Icoks, Jr., wore a wedding gown cf white satin with a sweetheart neckline trimmed with cording and a full skirt shirred to the long basque waist. The full lengih veil was fastened on each side with clips of seeded pearls and her bouquet was of bride’s roses. The bridegroom had as his best man, Sergeant Charles D. Hoff man. of Pennsylvania and Fort Bragg. The bride's mother wore apale green print with white back ground. Her corsage was of pink rosebuds. The couple left for a wedding trip to unannounced points. The bride wore a blue suit with pink and black accessories. She wore a corsage of white roses taken from the bridal bouquet. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hooks. Sr., of had bourn. She received her education in the Chadbourn schools. Sergeant CoCIlins is the son of L. H. Collins and the lat.e Mrs. Collins, of Whiteville. He is a brother of H. H. Collins, of White ville. He has been in the army since 1939 and has spent 51 months overseas. He is now stationed at Miss Silver To Wed Rev.
